I'm trying to put together a photo slideshow to show at my sister's 21st birthday party. I've searched on the internet but can't seem to find a program that will a) allow me to upload all of my 50 photos or b) allow me to copy this slide show onto a DVD, compatabile with DVD players / TV's. I don't need sound as this will just be a background feature & there will be a DJ at the party. I would like to be able to have some transition effects though & maybe the ability to insert captions alongside the photos. Might Powerpoint work for this or could anyone kindly suggest an alternative program that might work.

Hi,

50 photos would not require a DVD. A CD will do just fine.

There's a little secret that most people don't know about. Almost all of the DVD players sold in the past few years have a feature that automatically plays a CD or DVD full of pictures (JPG) as a slide show.

So all you have to do is to save the presentation as pictures, then copy that folder to a CD. Pop the CD into your DVD player and it plays the slide show.

To save your PowerPoint as a series of Pictures just use File > Save As and change the format to JPEG.

Actually - no, Power Point alone won't work. You'd still need a DVD Authoring program and a DVD Menu program that will call the Power Point Slideshow and then play it on the DVD.

I'd suggest a program from Ulead, called CD / DVD Picture Show. It does everything you are asking for, including customized menus, photo frames, background music and more. If you were to buy the software, it's around $49. However, you can find older versions of it on some file sharing programs. If you were to use version 2 or 3 it would still work great.

A lot of DVD players will read JPeg anyway...you probably can just burn the raw files straight to DVD. Pretty much all the DVD burning software out there will let you put pictures into the DVD project, so maybe you should try nero or roxio, or sonic

I have a small regular TV for my bedroom that has a DVD player in it, and it will not play photo CDs. So not all recent DVD players will do this!

You can certainly do this in PowerPoint. Look for tutorials at microsoft.com. If you happen to have a Mac, use iMovie for terrific results. You can create a video slideshow, burn it in iDVD, and the results are great!
Good Luck!

I use NERO for my slideshows. You will need a DVDR burner though.
