If you're on a budget take the M60 Bus from La Guardia Airport and get off and tranfer to the subway in Manhattan. For the upper east side you'll probably want to transfer to the 4/5/6 subway at 125th street. Make sure you bring 2 dollars in quarters for the bus. The whole trip should only cost 2 dollars total (free transfer from the bus to the subway, ask the driver for the transfer)

Very good idea to ask for advice first, Im from North Wales in the U.K. and we go to New York nearly every Christmas for about a week, anyway there are two suggestions that I have for you, the best and most reliable is the "Yellow Cab", but DO NOT go near any other taxi company other than a suggestion from the airport or any nearby hotels (which kindly phone them for you most of the time). Last time because we needed more room we got the hotel to phone a suggested company which picked us up from the airport hotel in a 4x4.

Best of luck!!!
