Here is a question for all you Gordon fans out there. With Gordon starting a new chapter in life as a family man, how much longer will he race?? The Cup season is long and demanding to the drivers and Gordon has already proven himself to be one of the all time greats... Will he surpass DW and Bobby Allison in all time wins? How bout David Pearson? Will he get to that 7 championship tier with Petty and Sr?

He could walk away right now, he has nothing to prove to anyone. However, I think he enjoys the comradery of the other drivers and the competitiveness of the Nextel Cup series. I think he'll be around for 5-6 more years and call it a career. By then who knows how many kids he'll have and he will want to participate more in their lives. If he wins the cup this year it may even shorten his racing career. I'm sure he wants at least 1 more championship but I don't think he cares a whole lot about beating people ahead of him in the wins and total number of cups departments. Anything else for him will just be the icing on an already huge cake.

Oops, I forgot the other part of the question. He will pass up everybody except for Pearson and Petty for all time wins and he will only win 1 or maybe 2 more championships at the most.

It really is hard to say and I don't think Gordon himself knows the answer to that question. On one hand, I think he will stay in as long as he can be truly competitive throughout the year, year after year. Not good one year, then mediocre the next, then good again. Then on the other hand, I feel like he is so serious about his family, that he won't want to miss out on his little girl growing up. Do I think he will pass any more records? Possibly DW and Allison, but I highly doubt he will pass Pearson. Not that he couldn't, it just doesn't seem as important to Gordon to break records as it does to be a family man and a good dad. If that doesn't show the epitome of class, then nothing does.

Regardless of how many more years he races, if any, he has already signed his name as one of the best. He knows that, and he also knows that the fans know that. In the long run, I don't really see him racing too many more years, and if that is the case, then it's been one hell of a ride for him.

The way that team is racing as of right now, I would have to say he will go winless in 2008( sorry 24 fans ). But i wish the 24 and 20 would each get a win this year. I've never been a gordon fan but i'd pull for him anyday before the 48 or 88. So good luck jeff and tony, i hope one of ya'll wins the cup.

He said he will race until hes 40's, I think he will pass DW amd Bobby Allison in wins, not david pearson although it may be close, I do not think he will win 7 championships maybe 6

I think that it won't matter how long he races.. Gordon fans will be sad when he retires. I don't think Gordon could ever race too long or accomplish too much. Yes he has proven himself..but I think he would like to see himself get to that 7th championship at least!

Think about this:
He gets to the 7 championship tier with the King & Intimidator
Then he goes to part time until he takes over HMS for Rick Hendrick.

Any thoughts?

He will probably only race 3-4 more years. No he won't get that 7th championship and he will be lucky to end his career with 90 wins.

I hope 45 but honestly I think at age 40 he might give it up. What does he have to prove? He's already one of the all time greats and he has more money than he knows what to do with, why go through the grind? I suspect, sadly, that he'll be done before we all like. He will get up to 3rd on the wins list and he'll get to maybe 6 champsionships (although if he gets to 6 it might inspire him to stay and go for 7).

I'm guessing probably 40 but 45 tops. I don't think he'll stay in it long enough to get that 7th championship.
