It all depends on what you mean by restore...
1. You can use system restore to restore to a previous setting
2. You can simply just save all your files to another drive or create a gmail account and upload your files there (it's about 2GB). Then just buy another XP disc or get a pirated one if you're into that stuff. This will erase everything. So you just transfer all your files when you're finished.

You do not need the CD at all, I know Acer laptops inside out, having literally completely rebuilt one.

Back up your important files to the ACERDATA D: partition and also onto CD/DVD.

Then, double click Acer eManager on the desktop, click Acer eRecovery, enter the password (default six zeros). Then select Recovery Actions, then select Restore Factory Default System.

The other way is to back everything up, then reboot. As the BIOS is loading (the Acer screen), press ALT+F10. This starts the recovery procedure.

look in the Start>All Programs menu for the Acer folder, and in there look for the manual. In the manual look for "Acer eRecovery" > "Create factory default image CD". that will tell you how to burn them off. (You also have a System Recovery partition if it comes to that.)
