there's no proof that any god exists, I don't believe in ANY god

that's pretty much what makes me an atheist - I don't believe in gods or any higher power

Same question to you except turn it around and say why do you believe if there is no proof, what makes you Christan? As for why I don't believe, personal experiences, when I thought about it it seemed a bit illogical to me, and too much hypocrisy.

"If I do not want what you want, please try not to tell me that my want is wrong.

Or if I believe other than you, at least pause before you correct my view.

Or if my emotion is less than yours, or more, given the same circumstances, try not to ask me to feel more strongly or weakly.

Or yet if I act, or fail to act, in the manner of your design for action, let me be.

I do not, for the moment at least, ask you to understand me. That will come only when you are willing to give up changing me into a copy of you.

I may be your spouse, your parent, your offspring, your friend, or your colleague. If you will allow me any of my own wants, or emotions, or beliefs, or actions, then you open yourself, so that some day these ways of mine might not seem so wrong, and might finally appear to you as right -- for me. To put up with me is the first step to understanding me. Not that you embrace my ways as right for you, but that you are no longer irritated or disappointed with me for my seeming waywardness. And in understanding me you might come to prize my differences from you, and, far from seeking to change me, preserve and even nurture those differences." Let him step to the music which he hears, however measured or far away. —Henry David Thoreau

In my personal opnion, some people dont have the capicity to believe in something bigger than themselves. Maybe they havent found a religion that appeals to what they believe. Mabye they have had something bad happen in their life and they blame God. Maybe they dont want to believe that they will be held responsible for every sin they commit while they are alive when they die. Who knows? I am sure every one has a different story.

Logic and rational thought did it for me. I saw evidence that a scientific view of the world was coherent, rational, and where testable, the tests were repeatable, meaning you got the same results every time. The bible is none of those - you are asked to take everything on faith. I can't do that.

education. If you read into the history of religions, you will discover that they all claim the same things, they all tell the same stories, and they all insist the others are wrong. Almost everything in the bible can be traced back to earlier tales (noah - gilgamesh, moses' birth - sargon's birth, etc). once you realize its all mythology, you cannot take any of it as truth.

i think the question is why believe if there is no proof? If I told you dracula was living on the moon would you believe it, even though I had nothing to back it up?? No, you would say I am crazy and to shut up. Same thing.

I'm atheist because I don't think any deity exists. It's pretty simple, really.
