I've tried everything from starvation to making myself sick and using laxatives to taking ephedrine and all i want is to eat relatively normal. I know they aren't great techniques but my fear of being out of control and overweight is immense so i've now taken to smoking and it makes me lose my appetite and feel giidy which is fun cos it's such a lush feeling. I just wondered if anyone else has tried this method and does it last? Will it help me stabalise my eating?

Really? is there any need for insult? Thanks to most of you tho. And yes smoking is bad, i'm well aware of that and i'm not in the least overweight, YET but my fear is such that i'm suicidal so isn't it better to die slowly feeling good about myself rather than dying tomorrow feeling rubbish?

So wish i was in america to be able to get hold of some of this stuff but i'm not and i've hit a brick wall. Prozac is supposed to be helping with bulimia and CBT was supposed to help too but it didn't and like some of you have said i do have issues and i know smoking is a really sensitive subject for some and i know i sound pathetic in this post but i'm at a loss i really am. I wake up with this fear of being fat every morning. I'm trapped.

Oh dear you have opened up a can of worms, haven't you! People are so emotional about smoking. I smoke myself, though quite lightly (1-10 a day depending on stress levels) and I really wish I didn't smoke at all. And I am overweight.

I get the impression that you are probably not overweight in the true sense, but believe that you are fatter than you "should" be.

If you have tried ephedrine, vomiting and laxatives then you are, as I am sure you know in your heart, not doing things the right way.

I bet you know already really that you have a problem. It sounds like you have may an eating problem, rather than a genuine weight problem. Do you eat compulsively? Massive amounts, far too much for a "normal" eater? And then either starve yourself, or take laxatives or make yourself sick?

Well, I think we both know the answer although of course I could be wrong.

Anyway, smoking WILL NOT HELP. It will just add another problem to your list. I think if you have a problem with food, all that is likely to happen is you end up with a problem with cigarettes as well as food.
AS A SMOKER I AM QUALIFIED TO SAY THIS - STOP BEFORE YOU GET TOO HOOKED - THERE ARE PLENTY OF FAT SMOKERS!

I sympathise with you as I have food issues, though thankfully not very extreme nowadays. And I smoke. But I know it doesn't help with my weight or my health.

If you genuinely are overweight then Weightwatchers is great, you get support at the weekly meetings and it's a great motivation. (I can't get to one where I live which is almost definitely one reason why I am still overweight, though mine this time around came from having 2 babies!)

If you are not sure if you are overweight, health-wise, for your height, Weightwatchers will tell you if you go and be weighed, or you could cut out the middle man and go to your doctors.

If you are determined to avoid going to the doctors at the moment, I think a book, with a free "self hypnosis" CD, might be of help. It is PAUL McKENNA - "I CAN MAKE YOU THIN"

If you buy it, please read it from cover to cover and use the CD to help get your mind in gear for eating like a "normal" eater.

It is the most sensible thing I have seen for ages as it helps you to eat the way that people without food issues eat, people who are slim because they are not addicted to food, but really enjoy it.

Please, please if all this doesn't help, will you consider going to your doctor instead of doing things to your body that can be far more dangerous than a few extra pounds (which I bet you don't have anyway)?

To put it in a nutshell:

Don't take up smoking, you won't really lose weight and will DEFINITELY REGRET IT IN THE FUTURE

Try Weightwatchers if you are sure you are genuinely overweight

Try the Paul mcKenna book and CD

Don't vomit, it will rot your teeth

Don't take laxatives, you will ruin your bowels

Don't take ephedrine, you will ruin your nerves!

If you really can't eat normally, after maybe trying the McKenna book....

SEE YOUR DOCTOR!

Just don't get yourself addicted to anything as harmful as cigarettes in your quest to eat "normally", please.

Remember also how few public places allow smoking now. If you get hooked on tobacco, you will feel VERY on edge in pubs, clubs, bars, because you can't smoke in them.....

Good luck!

Using the patch or gum helps with the physical cravings. Remember that the physical addiction only lasts 3-4 days, after that it is all mental addiction. Best things to do when quitting: Stop on a weekend. Gives you time to adjust before having to concentrate. Eliminate patterns where you used to smoke. Smoke with coffee? then switch to tea for a while. If you usually smoke in one room or one chair, avoid that place for a while. Also remember a craving lasts only about 5 minutes. If you can make it past that 5 minutes, you will feel better. Most people gain weight, because nicotine causes the intestines to absorb less nutrients and calories. Traditionally, people will gain weight the first 3 months, but then the weight tends to recede some. good Luck!

I lost weight AFTER I quit smoking. I also quit eating mass amounts of pure junk, too. I examined what I was doing and eating and not doing and eating. It's been two and a half years and I'm healthier than ever. My husband's sister and They both look physically older than what they are, my husband's sister has hair that doesn't just look thin, but actually looks as though it's thinning. I'm seven and a half months pregnant and I've only gained about 20 pounds due to good eating of whole foods. Both of the aforementioned women look much more pregnant than me, but they also consume mass amounts of stuff I wouldn't even classify as food. (They consider things like meat and processed cheese on white bread with mayonnaise healthy. I would only touch it if I were starving to death and the life of my child was at risk.) Actually, my 21-y-o SIL (my husband's younger sister) also has a round belly from poor eating habits. Yes, she has gone vegetarian, but she also still eats fully hydrogenated potato chips, large muffins and other stuff I wouldn't consider food. Then wonders why she's fat.

I can't stand to be around the two who smoke. They REEK. I suppose on a technicality that the stale smoke on their hair and clothing pose no harm to my child, but I just literally can't breathe when I am near them. I don't go into my BIL's house because it reeks. Before my pregnancy, I just made an excuse the last time my husband visitied them. I sat in the car saying that I have not had any time to myself that day and needed some private time to chill. It was true, though. Now, though, I think my BIL knows why I won't go into the house. Both women smoked before, during and after their pregnancies (indoors, around their children) and wonder why their children have health problems (again, the children's poor diets don't help either).

If you want to risk your health and ostracize people, then go for it. However, if you're looking to date, I don't know of many men who find smoking attractive.

If you try eating real food (food that God made in nature, not man in a laboratory) and being active, you'll have success. Yes, I was on the thin side when I smoked, but I certainly wasn't healthy. I smoked in high school and I currently still weigh less (at seven and a half months pregnant) than what I did then. Also, I'm a zillion times healthier.

I assume you are very young to start smoking in order to lose weight .
Ok some people do lose weight but they can also lose their lungs
Look around you and see how many overweight people smoke so it doesn't make you lose weight
If you have a problem with your weight see your GP but smoking isn't the right way to go about it
Apart from the money it costs your risking your health and it isn't worth it

Smoking is not the way to go, it might not work, and it will be bad for you either way. If you are not overweight, dont worry about it unless oyu put on weight, and if you are depressed see a specialist, because if you are not overwieght then smoking will not make any difference and you will still be depressed.

And if you think smoking is that good a feeling that is a bit weird. Get some grass, you will like it much better and it will make you 30 percent less likely to get cancer (as THC kills only weak cells). It is also well known to relieve depression. Of course, that is only if you feel you need a feeling like tobbacco gives you to make you feel better.

Will it last? The addiction will last a long time and you won't feel any better about yourself, especially over time. And even though smoking stops you from feeling hungry, you might actually gain weight due to the way your insulin reacts with the food that you do eat. It honestly sounds like you need help with your problems. Go to a counselor and a nutritionist. At the least, go to you tube and search for Fat Rant. That should help put things in perspective.

I pray that you get the help that you need and the peace that you're looking for.

Yeah but in the long run it doesn't work. I tried smoking to keep from eating & ended up weighing 94 pounds. Try eating sensibly & exercising like the rest of us.

There's also Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig & Nutrisystem!

BTW kiddo: I can't speak for other people: but I was not rude & had NO intention of being rude. If you think some1 is being rude : report them to Yahoo CC. Jerks do it to ME all the time.

you would rather die of smoking than losing weight the natural weight. It doesn't seem like you understand the correct ways to lose weight. Have you ever heard of diet an excercise. You act like you have worked so hard to lose weight by starving yourself and using laxatives. People like you make me angry because I have lost a total of 55 pounds the healthy way with alot of hard work and motivation. - You are just looking for the easy way out, good luck with that lung cancer thing. Smoking is not going to solve your problems, if you are suicidal you need to seek medical help immediately. I had a grandmother die of lung cancer and trust me that is not a happy way to die. you need to get help
