out side the night clubs and pubs in Burnley , the chewing gum on the pavement looks like a patterned carpet, surley this is more of a menace (more costly) than *** ends. also the government will make your council tax go up to fight the *** end problem because they are not giving more money to the councils to cover the clean up, where will this madness end.

when will the non smokers get their heads from up their a***s and stop bowing down to the labour (patronising knowitall) think tanks that realy decides policy in this country,
ps where is the democracy in that?
pps THE WEBSITE HAS BLANKED OUT THE WORD *** INCASE IT OFFENDS, A HUGE SIGN THAT POLITICAL CORRECTNESS HAS GONE TO FAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am not saying smoking is as bad as gum, what im saying is, " that gum on the pavement is a problem and that the cost of removal is expensive, but u dont see people being fined £50 for it.

I quite agree this country is fooking shank with all its rules and nannying and politically correct swollocks and it really pishes off I hate this fooking sh!t place with all the immigrants is it politically incorrect or against human rights to send them back when it is those people that cause most of the crime and overcrowd our jails we didnt have this problem before they starting flooding in. WHAT ABOUT OUR HUMAN RIGHTS AND WHAT WE WANT????????

By the way killing us smokers of early will only make your taxes go up because they wouldnt be getting the income from the sales and then your interest rates would go up these non smokers are just busy bodying do gooders that cant see the bigger picture or past there nose for that matter

My sentiments exactly but up in Edinburgh they have machine they use at night when quiet to try and get as much gum off the pavements and agree they should be fined the same as smokers here if they drop a cigarette on road or pavement fairs fair.

At least a cigarette end can be swept up. Chewing gum is also impossible without a lot of effort.

Perhaps we should just add it to our gaol 'en hang 'em and whip 'em list

Yeah! and stick it to the gum spitters too!

btw, they won't let me say pea **** either.

EDIT:

American author Kurt Vonnegut threatened to sue Phillip Morris. He claimed that he was suicidal most of his life, and the two packs a day of unfiltered Pall-Mall's failed to do the trick. He died this year at 84. I think he was being cheeky.

... you could just not smoke...

but in answer to your question. I think it IS a good idea that you get find for throwing cigarette butts on the floor, especially when there are LOADS of places to stub them out. However, i also think that people should be fined for spitting chewing on the floor because it really does just make a place look horrible.

edit: Chewing gum does not cause fires

Both should be fined its littering and i think the smoking ban is a good idea but more needs to be done as they still smoke at bus stops etc!

It is a matter of opinion, but I believe part of the problem is that constant smoking looks bad, smells bad, and is worse than gum.

the ban is "law" what did u expect.
best if smokers boycotted anti smokeing establishments(wonder how many there are?)
Would the anti smokeing lobby loose profit and stop "ramming their NERD fellings down others throats(if not backed by a nefarious law).

I think both should be considered littering and both should be fined. As much as cigs cost these days, I'm suprised smokers don't eats the butz.
