Why is it that when you go clubbing, you can find some of the nicest people, but when you go to church you will find the most hurtful, judgemental people around? Why is it that I have more friends who are non-Christian and none who claim to be Christian? I pray that God will provide me with good Christian friends to surround myself with but the Christians are so judgemental. I guess I have to "Yea!" to the "nons". Sorry brothers and sisters.

Thanks for all your answers so far.
I guess what really bugs me the most is that the people I church with are people who won't even talk to me. And just what is the opposite of love? Not hate but apathy. People who have judged you of say a rumor and won't even giving you the time of day. those who won't even ask if the rumor may be true, they just go ahead and believe it. These aren't people I've just met, I've known them for a long time.
To my Christian brothers and sisters, can we please make the hyocracy stop???

Wow, asking this question has produces some interesting answers and I appreciate them.
I don't intend to be a hateful person, I don't intend to "bash" my brothers and sisters.
All I really ant is an honest ot goodness friend, within my religious belief system, it seems to be a lot harder than I thought it would be. In fact it seems impossible. Why?

I don't know if that's true in all churches, but remember, the church is a place for wounded souls, the lost, homeless, those who are searching for something different..that's why Christ came, for the lost, so if you're 'found,' then go make a difference every Sunday! ♥

You're just going to have to start hanging around with a different group of Christians. Every Christian person I know is kind, considerate and helpful. I'm talking about a church of over 1,500 for every service. I have not met one mean person in the whole bunch. I find that the nicer I am, the more nice people I attract. It might be your fault a little bit. Have you ever thought of an attitude adjustment?

Are they judgemental or just exhorting you to do better? I am not saying this is the case, but true friends don't let you go down a wrong path. There are some very legalistic Christians, and this is unfortunate. I pray you will find freinds who will encourage you to take the best from life and to get rid of things in life that hold you back from a strong relationship with the Lord.

I have noticed this too. I think it happens because people are unsure. They profess faith readily enough but they fall short in actually living it. Their behavior toward others: judgmental, condemning, holier-than-thou etc is borne of their own lack of joy and their own inability to really understand what they are doing and why their faith is not making them more Christlike. The reason they do not admit to this lack of understanding is that they are afraid of what others will think, so instead it is like the Emperor's New Clothes...who will be the first to admit that they can't see the new clothes and that the king is stark naked? Not me, how bout you? Not you? OK so wow, what really cool new clothes the king is wearing!
If a Christian admits that he does not understand Jesus' teachings or that his relationship with his church is not making him loving and patient, unjudgemental and compassionate - then he is stigmatized and criticized and of course the others think, "Tsk tsk, he must be doing something wrong and that's why is isn't happy," so it is just easier to pretend that you are getting it, except the truth always comes out in ones behaviour. This is why it is said that you can fool other people but you cannot fool God.
I actually think that the Christians who think they are fooling God are actually atheists in Christian's clothing. Why? because if they truly believed in God they would know that nothing can be hidden from Him, and they would be ashamed enough to correct their actions.

Honestly I have always wondered that myself, people that claim to be to close to church and try to go all the time. Some of these people are the meanest and judgmental people I have ever met, I even know some of these people personally. I don't know why they are like that I mean if they attend church a lot you would wonder they would be the nicest people to hang around with but some turn out to be quite the opposite.

I've experienced just the opposite. Clubs are great when you go with friends, but the people I meet usually are loaded with problems, drink to escape, and really have no true interest in knowing me and my friends.(Well, okay they have an interest sexually, but I'm not looking for that)
The Churches I've been to, which is quite a few since I'm trying to find a Church home, are welcoming, come from all walks of life, and take the time to talk to me, and get to know me. I didn't realize either that many of them have young adult groups too, a much better place to meet people, and they offter some great activities. And *gasp* they drink too, but just a couple.

Sound like you have more in common with the spiritually dead.. This could be s serious problem. Maybe a spiritual inventory is called for here. I haven't spoken to your Christian friends and there is no changing anyone but yourself. So either find out why you can't seem to make friends at the church, look for a new church home , or figure out what in your walk with Christ is showing others that you are not one of them.... Jim

First of all I am sorry you have had to deal with Christians like that, but remember just cuz someone says there a Christian doesn't mean they are,you will know a Christian by the fruits of there spirit.I believe some times we feel condemnation when we know we are doing wrong, that is God's way of saying hay what are you doing. It is called guilt.I know personally cuz when I was not doing to good spiritually I thought things about Christians too and it wasn't them it was me and what I was going threw.Well I hope this helped a little,God bless.

If you really are a Christian, you should be surrounding yourself more with people of like faith. You may find "nice" people in the club, but you will not find people who tell you what you really need to hear or things that will help you spiritually. Don't be discouraged, or deceived, by the actions of a few people. Get to know Christ for yourself, and try not to be judgmental yourself, because the Bible says if we judge others, we will be judged too.

I don't really know how to respond, because most of my friends are Christian, and they're very good friends. I love them like they are family. I also have friends who I'm just as close to, and they aren't Christians. I'm sorry you've been hurt by the Christians around you. Maybe check out a different church.

Yeah, I know what you mean. But if you look at it, Christians are human beings too. They sin.. yet they are different because they are forgiven for them. I have a lot of Christian friends too who are judgemental, but you are being judgemental too by saying in the first place that Christians are judgemental. Also, think about all the positive, and nice Christian people you have around.
