So on the news, instead of saying "the US is at war," you want them to say "the active duty US troops are at war"? I think it's implied that the war isn't being fought by mall rats.

Funny how most of the people insisting that the "nation is at war" aren't in the military themselves, much less have gone to Iraq or Afghanistan. Most of us combat vets, who actually HAVE been to Iraq or Afghanistan, find the notion of the "US being at war" laughable. The armed forces are at war; the nation is not. None of this war has been fought on American soil. Americans are still living their lives much as they otherwise would if we weren't at war; day-to-day life, the economy, society, culture... it's really about where it would be if there wasn't a war. Compare the difference to how the country was during both World Wars, the Civil War, the Revolutionary War; civilians back home are living their lives normally and are in no way inconvenienced by a war going on on the other side of the world.

I guess it all depends on whether you listen to actual veterans of this war and their point of view, or whether you listen to arrogant armchair generals convinced of their own authority.

because the soliders are fighting for the us so the us is at war really

it is silly to think that the whole country should be sent to war over in iraq but you do have a good point people need to give more respect to there country and there soliders instead of taking every day life for granet a soldier gives up the easy life to go fight

The reason that the United States is at war, is due to the fact that it's the soldiers who are representing the whole of the United States. They are representing a free people ... not just themselves.

When American soldiers are at war, the nation is at war. Some people still go to the mall or whatever, but this has nothing to do with not being at war.

Honey, the nation IS at war. The soldiers are sort of like our representatives. Your involvement is through your taxes- Republicans are spending your tax dollars like water to fund the war.

for the same reason the american people seen it as muslims attacking on 9/11 instead of osama bin ladin and people like him. people always look at the general picture.

Granted the soldiers are in the conflict, but you don't think I don't flinch every time a bomb kills & maims some of them. Or that 12 billion $/month are being wasted on that conflict.

It absolutely kills me every time I think of all the people dying to justify Bush's urge to wage a war.

Our invasion & continued presence is the reason for terror in Iraq, not the solution.

In 1776 American colonialists rallied to throw off the domination of mighty England. (Only afterwards did they sit down to write a constitution) How is the antigonism of many Muslims to US interference in their world any different?

What kind of communist are you? Our nation is at war just because you may not agree with it does not make it not so. Would you believe our nation was at war if you city was attacked? Wake up!!!
