I have my tattoo and piercings for me so please don't judge people based on looks. I wont judge you for not having them and would appriciate not being called "weird" because of them. Piercings can be removed, they are purely for looks but something we still wanted for our selves and not attention. The same goes for tattoos as far as not being about getting attention. Expression is different for every tattoo, that is the beauty of the art, the same rose can mean something entirely different to each that has it. Often times, it's the artistic, outgoing, open minded and generally unshy that have tattoos because we (most) don't care what other people think nor are we after the attention, I could personally care less if people know I have a tattoo. It will often spark conversation because it surprises someone and they ask about it. Jobs, you can get a decent or even excellent job with tattoos. The key is location, being able and willing to cover and knowing when it is right to show them and when it isn't. I am going into teaching and any and all of my tattoos will be easy to hide or hard to see. I wouldn't take back any of my piercings or my tattoo and am getting more. They are a part of me, express my personality and I love them. Many will say that tattoos look gross as you get older but that's not always true. It depends on how you take care of your body and your ink. If you let it fade or put it somewhere that will be greatly effected then yes it probably will look crappy later. At least when I'm 90 my grandkids will have more than scars to ask about.

I agree with the people above me that said calling someone's choice of body mods a 'weird piercing' is rude and presumptuous.
I don't have too many 'weird' piercings, but I do have 5 tattoos. 2 of those are visible. I have never had a problem getting a job in my field because of them (which is accounting and consulting).
I will not regret my choice of body art because I thought about each and every tattoo for a long time before I got them. My oldest tattoo is 14 years old, and to this day, I do not regret it. I got my tattoos to represent different things in my life, and my most recent tattoos are dedicated to the 2 people who had the most influence on my life.

i think you have no right calling them weird piercings to start off. Thats kinda rude.
They are doing what they want, it doesnt matter if everyone understands it or not. Its what they want. Why do you probably have your ears pierced? Why do people dye their hair? Why do women try to hide greys? Why do you put on some heels and a nice dress? to make you feel good about yourself.
Body Mods are for the person, not everyone around them.
Most wont regret it. You really cant regret a "weird piercing" because you can take it out and it will close it up if you dont want it anymore. You can get a very decent job. Do you know how many actresses have covered up piercings and tattoos? How about doctors? Trust me there are tons. Who knows, maybe theres a person with "weird piercings" and plenty of tattoos that are better off than you.

Well, I think it depends on how a person presents herself. Many times, when I see an inked mom, the reason I can see all the tattoos is because she's wearing shorts/skirts way too short, or really revealing tops, which I don't think is a good role model for kids. However, I have a friend who has many tattoos, but is a really classy person - wears clothing appropriate for her age, and acts like an adult. Btw, she's pregnant right now, and absolutely beautiful. :) That being said, I think there are plenty of people who don't have a single tattoo and still fall into the first category I mentioned, but I think that people with many tattoos not only draw more attention to themselves in the first place(which is not necessarily a bad thing) but are already fighting to overcome stereotypes. When I have kids, who they hang out with will be based less on parent's personal appearances, and more on the character of the parents of my kid's friends.

Tattoos and piercings are about self expression be it who you are, something/someone you want to remember, etc.
There is a possibility that people regret them. The people who wake up and say "I'm gunna get a tattoo today" then go pick something meaningless off of a wall in a studio and have it done, they might regret it. However, if it really means something to you and you think carefully and long enough about doing it, you won't regret it.
If they are visible and offensive to your choice job, it can effect you getting or keeping a job. However, if they are tasteful or can easily be covered or removed (piercings not tattoos) there shouldn't be a problem.

well piercing can be removed once a person no longer wants one
and as for tatoos i get stuff that has a meaning to me.. like for people i know who have died or something that has happened in my life.. I will never regret this and will always look back and think about those times.... And you can still get a decent job having them .. i worked in a dentist office for a while the dentist was an *ss so i left but i know plenty of people who are ceo of compnays have tons of tattoos you just got to cover them up.. and a suit does that
and i like to express how i feel through art.. and thats how most people feel ... People also need to stop sterotyping those with tattoos.. not all of us are trashy or trouble makers.. alot of us are the nicest people you will ever meet

"Weird" is in the eye of the beholder. It would be rude of me to comment on some stuff you or others do that I might consider odd, so however inadvertent you might want to be careful on how your biases slip in.
I got it because I wanted it, and because I've been raised to believe that the pursuit of happiness is a core American value. I guess if I'm saying or expressing anything with it, perhaps it's a non-verbal test of other American's support of this right.
I've never had job troubles; then again, I chose a career where my skills were more important than how I looked. I could in theory regret it, but considering how I over analyze things (including getting the tattoo work), I think that chance is along the lines of "not in the life of the universe".

everybody gets them for different reasons. i have always been fascinated by them since i was a child. on my 18th birthday i rushed out and got my first tattoo. i have gotten a few more since then and have had my first few covered up, not because i regret them but because i realized that tattoos are art.
art is the reason i get tattooed now, i collect art in all mediums including canvas, glass, photos and skin. the things that a tattoo artist can do with their medium is amazing and advances and new techniques are being made all the time. it's a good feeling to have a beautiful piece of art on your body that tells a story about you or your life that will be there with you for your whole life.
that's why i have tattoos.

Some people get tattoos and/or piercings to rebel. Some get them because they like them and want them. Some get them for a way to remember and/or mourn. Some regret theirs within days, months, or years and some never regret. I've found that with tattoos you do have to cover them up to sometimes have a professional job, but I'm a firm believer in smashing the stereotype. Some people that I've met at work don't believe my tattoos are real when they see them on me outside of my job, but since I've smashed the stereotype, they are more accepting of others with tattoos.
