cause i know atheists who are good people. i know catholic christians who are evil people. and vice versa. what will happen to people who do good simply because its the right thing to do, not for any kind of internal reward?

so what some of you are saying is: good and bad are arbitrary; god is all that exists and all that ever will. i refuse to believe that.

I would have to guess that there would be far more nonbelievers in heaven than there would be "believers".

I am a Christian and I know God is definitely real. The Bible is evidence and proof enough... it is the only book that has stood the test of time and has not been changed nor revised. People will always try to prove that there is no God because they are afraid of the judgement for their sins.
There will always be "good people" that do good deeds but they will not get into heaven without knowing Jesus as their Saviour. The bible says plainly, " I will set before my eyes no vile thing. The deeds of faithless men I hate; they will not cling to me." Psalm 101:3. The truth may hurt, but what God is saying through that passage is that it doesn't matter how many good deeds you do... without faith your works are dead to Him. The Lord will not let an athiast or unbeliever into heaven just because they were kind to others.
Also I know that there are Christians who may be hypocritical and mean; not all Christains are this way, though.
Give God a chance to show you how real He is and that doing good deeds for God is not just to get an internal reward. God gave the gift of His Son Jesus dying on the cross to give us chance to live in heaven with him. (John 3:16) He loved us before we loved Him. With faith we are allowed to enter heaven. Doing good deeds as a believer is a way of saying "Thank You" to God, as well storing up a treasure in Heaven.
By coming to know Jesus you can go to heaven and have a relationship with Him here on Earth. To get info on salvation visit www.wmit.org and click on the icon near the bottom of the screen that says "Why Jesus", or call 888-NEED HIM

Please expand on your question. What proof is there that there isn't a God? I am interested to hear that.

Other than that, I really think that all good people of all faiths who live by the basic commandments, live a good honest life, and live more for others than themselves have a great shot at whatever the reward would be. God doesn't want us living just to get the "reward" of a happy afterlife. He wants us to be and do as good as we can, because it not only is a great way to treat our fellow man, its also a way to show respect to Him.

If it turns out that he's the god of the bible, the answer is almost certainly NO.

"None is righteous"
"All we like sheep have gone astray" etc, etc.
The Broad and Narrow ways... The consensus is clear.

There's just the odd curious verse, for example in Romans 2:14-16, which runs against so many other verses.

Assuming there is a god, and He's of that particular nature.

Who knows? There are people who believe that there are very strict requirements on who gets into Heaven, and others who don't believe anyone ever goes to Hell. All of them claim some kind of divine inspiration for their beliefs, and as you point out, there's very little evidence to indicate who might turn out to be right. Personally, I'll worry about it after I'm dead, and can actually make out the lay of the land, so to speak.

"good" is not the factor that determines who goes to heaven.

Rom 3:10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:

Rom 3:12 They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.

Rom 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

"despite all the evidence that there isn't"

Uhhh, what evidence?

1) Hypothetically a God does exist.
2) Why jump to the idea that heaven exists?
3) Should be phrased, "If it turns out there IS a god and Heaven"...

I believe that a kind and just god would prefer the good people.

But an egotistical god who thrives on being worshipped won't give a hoot about how "good" you were... He'll only count the number of times you prayed.

Yes. Check out the Book of Revelations. Non-Christians will be judged by their acts on Judgment Day.

ok. yes people that live the ten commandments. i know it is hard to believe in god for some people especailly because christen people or anyone (somethimes) dont practice what they preech like all those prests are child mulsters. and then people who dont believe in god are good. that is what you are asking well people who dont believe in god arent going to hell because of that it is like the death penalty for a innocent person yes i believe there is a heaven for good people

Assuming the Christian religion is right, they'll go to hell any way.

The thing is, that religion's not so much about being good as it is about having faith in God. Any sin can be forgivin, but only if you believe, apparently.

Tough toenails, amirite?
