I went to a restaurant called the Bombay Bite yesterday with my wife. She asked if they had a Spanish version of the menu and they said no. She asked, well then how are we supposed to order and the waiter was very rude. I had to punch him in the face and then they made us leave. Why did they do that?

I don't think they have menus in the Spanish language, in an Indian restaurant. And she should have been able to order perfectly fine, since it appears that you, she, and the waiter all spoke English.

This question was a perfect waste of 5 points. Hope you enjoyed the experience.

They are anti-illegal or anti-Hispanic or anti-Spanish, somehow they didn't like you or whatever. And I applaud your actions, but I think you could have yelled and shoved not actually punch. And they let you go?

Are you asking why they made you leave or why they said no to a menu in Spanish?

Why did they make you leave? Because you punched the waiter in the face. I would think that much is obvious.

Why did they not have a menu in a different language? Because obviously they don't have enough customers who speak that language to the exclusion of others to make it worth their time to translate their menu. And that applies whether the language was Spanish, German, or Swahili.

The reverse is also true -- and businesses who do have enough customers who speak other languages do translate their offerings to accomodate those customers.

I think you're making this up, but here goes - This is America. Our waiters and waitresses shouldn't be required to learn another language just to please someone like your wife that refuses to learn English. You obviously know English, so why didn't you translate it for her? Besides, restaraunts legally reserve the right to refuse service to anyone they please. You punched the waiter, so they kicked you out. End of story.

You know, that happens to me ALL THE TIME! But then I snap my fingers, and my fairy godmother shows up and waves her wand which magically produces a babel fish, which she then sticks into my ear, and then I can understand ALL languages, so I get on my unicorn and ride away to Wonderland....

It's because reality is just a crutch for people who can't handle science fiction.

Wow...I didn't know LAPD had internet connections for inmates at Twin Towers. Nice fantasy, but the only way you'd get into a restaurant in Westwood is through the busboy entrance.

If this were true, they did that because you acted like a neanderthal. The entire world is not set up to make the Spanish speaker feel welcome. Get used to it!
