The anointing of God does not depend on our actions, just as Saul's disobedience did not make him no longer king. To be anointed as king means that you WERE king until you died. Now the Spirit left Saul, yes, just as He left Samson when he broke his Nazarite vow.
I do not see anywhere where pastors or leaders are more anointed than any other believer. Believers are anointed as shown in 1 Cor. 1:21, and that just means, in type, that we have the Holy Spirit. The individual believer has just as much of the Holy Spirit as anyone else in leadership. We do mistakenly say, "Wow, that guy is really anointed." Which, technically we could say about any born again Christian that is filled with the Spirit of God.

Was David aware that the Lord's anointing had left Saul at that time? Also, I also think it may be because David respected Saul as the king.
No, I don't think it applies to leaders who fail and/or step down from the pulpit. I think it is completely up to God if/when the Lord's anointing departs from ministers or anyone else.

Hey it's No*no
Well David was showing respect to Saul. Even though he failed, David was still seeing him as God anointed. That's why he spared his life all those times. David did not want to kill Saul for 2 reasons. 1.} He did not want to be on Saul's level, and hurry his death, instead of letting God deal with Saul. 2.} He still loved Saul. And didn't wont to kill the one that help lead him to God. And yes that still goes for today. When a pastor fails, and turns to sin, If that pastor repents. Then we can not bring it back up to him. Cause God has for given him. But if he has turned back to the sin. Then that's when action is taken to stop that pastor from being in head of the people. To find a new leader. Cause remember not every one is called by God. Hope this helps. G.B.

Good question. Of course, David also ordered a man put to death because he said he'd killed Saul after he was wounded in battle (the man was lying).
I don't think all leaders today are necessarily anointed by God to lead; certainly, the Bible tells us that a country's leaders are raised to their positions by God's influence, but an anointing is a special thing. (Of course, all believers are similarly anointed with the Holy Spirit.)
David considered Saul to be God's anointed because he respected the fact that God told him (David) that it wasn't his time to lead Israel yet; thus, David understood that Saul's appointment as leader was still ordained by God.

Anointing is the same as a calling...the gifts and call of the Lord are without repentance. We can walk away from the calling or anointing as Saul did but it doesn't walk away from us.

Perhaps David didn't know that the Spirit left Saul. Since his replacement hadn't been named yet, it would be reasonable to assume that Saul was still God's chosen king.
So to kill Saul would have been a sin in David's eyes because as far as he knew, Saul was still in God's favor.

yes just because you lose your mind and backlside it doesnt mean you lose your anointing. take a look at all those secular singers whom God anointed with that beatiful voice. they started out in the chruch but then turned to the world. god did not take away their anointing. they still have a beautiful voice that stil can send chills up your spine. even so with saul, even though he was still acting like a fool, he was still anointed and david respected that. god still has blessed them

I have no idea why anybody was surprised by the result. Nadal is now the superior player in general, almost indisputably. He thrashed Federer at Indian Wells, despite Nadal being a little worse on hardcourt and Federer being better than on clay. Take that result, multiply it by the clay factor, and obviously it's going to be a thrashing. It was predictable and does not mean Federer's done for. Federer was NEVER nearly as good on clay as Nadal.
