while chewing, does the tongue start absorbing food nutrients?

The only food that can be absorbed by the tongue, is honey. Very little can be absorbed though. All else must be ingested!

Yes, the mouth is able to absorb some nutrients. There are several medications that are placed under the tongue for quick absorption. And one of the old first aid treatments for someone who has passed out due to low glucose was to place honey under the tongue. I believe it can only absorb simple sugars though.

I think it does a little, or maybe not, I'm not 100%. But even if it does it is minimal because the eating disorder which involves chewing and spitting causes sever weight loss if kept up.
