Well not the whole book. I have some concerns regarding Revelations. How can there be a world with one government and one religion? That sounds absurd to me. Also, John of Patmos is thought to be the one who wrote Revelations. Nero was the Roman emperor at the time. John of Patmos was exhiled to a remote island where he wrote the Book of Revelation. It just so happens the number 666 coincides with emperor Nero. I have also read that many of the items John talks about could be related to the politics of Rome at the time. Maybe this book is not divine and only takes on the Roman government and what John of Patmos would like to have happen. Why is this book in the Bible? What justification is there? I am confused. Please help me. Thank you.

John wrote it to encourage the early Church, which was being persecuted by Nero and the Roman government at the time. That's why he uses the number "666" instead of the name of Nero. It's like a code.

The fact that the book speaks of things related to Roman politics doesn't mean that it isn't inspired by God.

EDIT: Mabes, I'm attaching a link that discusses the beast. The part about the number 666 is about halfway down.

Starting with the revelation of the resurrected Christ to John and ending with the New Jerusalem there is a lot of stuff packed in between. It would certainly take far more room than is allowed in Yahoo answers. There have been many books written on the subject. Some books are written by unspiritual people while others are written by people who love God. Type Christian commentaries on the book of Revelation into your search bar and go from there. Having a Strong's Concordance by your side and the book of Revelation open in your Bible would help a lot and be a good start in understanding the book. There is just too much to learn to rush through so get what you can when you can. Be sure you pray for the guidance of the Holy Spirit before you start, and do that every time. God will help you.

The first thing you have to remember when referring to the bible or any ancient religious text is that it was written in ancient times. They could only write about what they knew, and I'm sure there is no way they could have imagined that the world would be as it is today. The second thing is that, since they are so old, there is no real way to know who wrote what, and what their sources were. Basically, you have to take it all with a grain of salt. Regardless of what was written that parallels anything else happening at that time, it is all metaphoric and symbolic, and thus left open to a wide range of interpretations. As you can see, there are several different groups umbrellaed under Christianity alone, and they really can not agree on very many things. So, again, take it with a grain of salt, not literally, figuratively. Basically what it says is that if we do not shape up and make the world a better place, we are doomed. And this has been true since biblical times. We just don't seem to want to learn from history, rather keep repeating it.

Revelation was written by the Apostle John who at the time was exiled on the island of Patmos. (Rev 1:9)
The world can have one government and one religion if all were done away with and God's Kingdom (or government) is established. (Dan 2:44) It may sound strange if you've never heard of it before but it is really the only way to bring about true peace.
I've never heard of 666 coinciding with emperer Nero, where did you hear this? 666 refers to the devil

The Book of Revelation is in the Bible to provide hope to the Believer.
John was commanded to write of the past, present, and the things he saw for the future in vision(s). It was written during a time of intense persecution against the church, and it provided hope to the Believer then, just as it continues to do so today.
The Book is as current to our headlines today as it was at the end of the first century. Along with other prophecies, Israel is back in their land as of May 1948. The star called "Wormwood" in chapter 8, which fell from heaven and poisoned many waters is translated as "Chernobyl" in the Ukraine.

There is nothing in the Book that isn't written about in other prophetic books of the Bible. It represents Earth's final chapter.

John, the disciple, wrote Revelation when he was a prisoner on the Isle of Patmos, while he was in the "spirit"
The book of Revelation is past, present, and future. It is NOT ABOUT THE ROMAN EMPORER, NERO. It is about the antichrist, and about Jesus' second coming(you forgot to mention that) It is a book of prophecy. It is a warning to the churches, to repent, and to do what is right. It is about the rapture, and about the great tribulation. How is that about the past??? It is about the DESTRUCTION OF HEAVEN AND EARTH, AND THE CREATION OF A NEW EARTH AND HEAVEN. When did that happen??? How is that about the past??? It is about Jesus claiming His Kingdom here on earth, and reigning for 1000 years. How is that about the past??? For those who think Revelation is just about the past, think again!! Do not be deceived! Jesus WILL COME AGAIN IN POWER AND GREAT GLORY, AND EVERY EYE SHALL SEE HIM, EVEN THOSE WHO PIERCED HIM. (how is that about the past??) "Every knee shall bow, and every tongue shall confess that He is Lord." When did that happen?? Be not deceived, the Lord is coming back, and is bringing His wrath with Him!!!

In history, people have often taken a political stab at someone else by couching it in the guise of a vague dream. The book of Revelation is no different.

the book speaks of the end times. it's all symbolic. all of Europe is already on ONE currency. that will soon spread to other nations. after that politics will follow. Nero murdered millions of Christan's during that time period. the # 666 is the mark of the beast. in the end times people who do not believe in God will wear this # on their hand or forehead.

You've hit the nail on the head, as any First Century citizen could have.

"Why is this book in the Bible? What justification is there?"

It was put there to get Xtians to say "I am confused" and keep them on the hook.
