I am not sure if this applies to the marines, but in the Navy you can come in as an E-2 or E-3 if you get the counselor's references and they enlist the contacts you supplied and stuff like that.
Depending on what you enter as, the military paychart may be able to give you the basic pay for your rate, but if you are married/have dependents, in a dangerous/hostel area, and basic subsistence or living allowance, it will not include that, and you will get money if those apply to you as well. The taxes are not taken out on the chart so you will be taxed on what you make unless you are directed to a tax free hostel zone.
