Yes that is correct.
After you are saved it opens up a whole new world though and you are volitionally responsible even still for what you do.
God rewards and punishes just as any father does.

You misunderstand the point my friend. We are not free to sin but we are free from sin. The book of Romans Ch. 6&7 in the New Testament explains this point better. When we are in Christ we do not want to do all those things.
King David murdered and commited adultery yet found forgiveness from God and he was a holy man. So, if David , who was under the Law can still be forgiven so can we who are under a better Law-Christ. Remember under Jewish Law any of those sins were punished usually with death or exile.

shai: Shalom ! Firstly; understand, that Jesus dying, as a sacrifice for our sins is different from the perspective, that one has to ACCEPT that sacrifice. That is to be atoned to God, the Father, is accepting that sacrifice of Jesus.
When you enter into a spiritual relationship with God, the Father, through Jesus Christ, this is accomplished by acceptance of that sacrifice because of GRACE (undeserved, unmerited, unconditional pardon for your sins). Yes; because of our human condition we will sin, but our sins are not out of an attitude of not caring like we once had, before we arrived at the knowledge of God and Jesus' sacrifice. The Christian then, DESIRES to please God and works towards making this world a better place to live in for others. This is why the convert to Christianity focus is now, on expressing out-going LOVE to first God and then, his or her neighbour. By all means, we will sin BUT have consolation in the assurance, that God forgives you and you do not have to carry around the burden of toxic shame and guilt with you, anymore ! Your main desire becomes to please God and you will not want to deliberately sin. Christianity is a process based in faith, grace and Jesus Christ. Non-believers have a tough time relating to Christianity because it is a spiritual issue - not physical and is therefore, apparent to its genuine partakers.
Good question and thank you.

I believe that any sin can be forgiven. But here is the key. Biblical "believing" requires action. You can believe that the building is on fire all day long, but until you do something about it, your belief does you no good. According to the New Testament, "Faith without action is worthless" (James 2:20). In the same way, we can believe that the Jesus can wash away our sins, but until we do what the Bible says we must to get them washed away, our belief is no good. What does the Bible say to do? The Bible says that baptism into the name of Jesus Christ washes away our sins (Acts 2:38, Acts 22:16), and Jesus himself said that without baptism we won't enter the Kingdom of God (John 3:5). So yes, if we believe Christ will take our sins because of his death coupled with faith that (if it is truly faith) will cause us to take action on that belief.

Jesus said "the wages of sin is death, but if you confess your sins, turn from your ways and believe in me and you shall be saved and cleaned white as snow." You have to be truely sorry for the sins that you have committed, sin is sin whether in pure thought or murder they are all weighed the same to a holy God. Jesus was the son of God and therefore was perfect. He boare our sins on the cross and concord death so that we may live forever with him. When you except Jesus as your savior you are just forgiven.

If you are a strong Jew, then you know the Mosaic laws and statutes...it requires a sacrifice to cleanse you of your sins and make you right with God.
Christ came to be the last sacrifice to pay the sins of the world once and for all time as only God can do. He cleansed all who will believe in Him. When we become Christians, we have the Holy Spirit, living within us to sanctify us and slowly but surely help us to become right representatives or examples of Christ's love to the world.
But you should know that belief/faith in Christ means we no longer continue to live as we once did...Just as God warned the Jews through His Prophets, to repent, and to turn away from their sins...we are to do the same. The difference is that we in Christ, are under the grace of God...the daily sacrifices have been done away with by God in His Son Jesus Christ, there is no more sacrifice for sins because Christ was the perfect sacrifice for all time and fulfilled the Law. For all people who believe in Christ, their sins have already been forgiven...
While we live on this earth we will still sin because we are in the flesh, but we must not practice sin as if it were acceptable, or ok...we must always repent when we stumble or fall, and then with faith that God will complete His good work in us, and fully sanctify us with the Holy Spirit, we get up and try harder, always praying for His help. We offer the continuous sacrifice of praise to Him with our lips, offering thanksgiving for all we have and all He has done for us, and we share the word of God with any who will listen to us as is our commission.
Hebrews 13:15
Through him, therefore, let us offer God a sacrifice of praise continually. For this is the natural product of lips that acknowledge his name.
1 John 5:10-13
10 Anyone who believes in the Son of God has this testimony in his heart. Anyone who does not believe God has made him out to be a liar, because he has not believed the testimony God has given about his Son. 11 And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12 He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. 13 I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life.
Hebrews 10:19-39
19 So, brothers, we have confidence to use the way into the Holiest Place opened by the blood of Yeshua. 20 He inaugurated it for us as a new and living way through the parokhet, by means of his flesh. 21 We also have a great cohen over God's household. 22 Therefore, let us approach the Holiest Place with a sincere heart, in the full assurance that comes from trusting - with our hearts sprinkled clean from a bad conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. 23 Let us continue holding fast to the hope we acknowledge, without wavering; for the One who made the promise is trustworthy.

Most Christians don't have a clue what they are talking about. Jesus demonstrated the messiah story - ego death and transfiguration idea - as a way to communicate that each of us has an authentic Self (Christ/annointed) or essential nature while we identify with our learned ego belief system. The significance? Because we literally "live by faith" (can only experience what we 'believe' is possible), rebirth/resurrection (psychologically) of the authentic Self changes our experience of reality (into heaven).
Every authentic spiritual insight degenerates over time into mumbo-jumbo.
