How long do you have? Maybe you ought to call me, it would be faster.

For one, I nursed my 62 yearold mother until her lungs filled with fluid and she had no lung power to cough it up. She drowned. It was a terrible way to die. Stage 4 lung cancer. The surgeon told us it was EVERYWHERE. They even found it in her brain.

My mom could easily have lived another 20 years. She could have seen my daughter graduate Rice University in December. She could have answered the phone any of the 200 times I've stopped myself from calling because she's gone. She would've been a great grandmother in very few years, and would have celebrated her 40th wedding anniversary, too. We lost all that when she died. And that's a damn good reason not to smoke.

If that's not enough, it's smelly, dirty and very expensive. It's polluting the air, and I despise when someone stands nearby and pollutes the air I breath. I think it shows weakness in character to have been stupid enough to start, and I think the people who are truly addicted are facing a life-threatening dilemma. God give them grace.

I smoked for 35 years and then quit 4 years ago. I won't start back for several reasons, health concerns and being made to feel like a second class citizen by society in general, plus it was hard to quit and I don't want to go through that again.

Because honestly it looks tacky and also I don't want to spend all that money on a carton each week or two times a week. That is a lot of money lost.
