My first interview was a phone interview and I was invited back for a second phone interview at the end of the call. At the second interview, I was told I should come down and visit the City (I live out of town) and meet people I would be working with. The HR recruiter was on the second interview call and told me she would call me back right away or "first thing" the following morning.

Today is the second day, morning has passed, and I have not heard back from her. How long should I wait to contact her? Is it impolite for her not respond when promised? Am I being too anxious because of what I was told? What could the hold up be?

I know she is busy, but some sort of response, such as I am waiting on xyz and will call you back in a week, would have been helpful.

PS. I hate interviewing and job searching. I am currently employed, but my wife and I are relocating shortly and that is why I am interviewing. Otherwise, I would work at my current job forever.

It would not be impolite to call her and ask "I am following up on our last conversation, and it was my understanding that you would contact me right away or the next morning. Has anything change?"

Remain polite. HR personnel gets tied up with many different things that sometimes, "next day" becomes a few days. But if you're anxious to know, and I am sure that you are, it doesn't hurt to follow up. The best case scenario is that they were waiting for someone else to get back to them before calling you. Worst case scenario is that there is no position out there, or position has changed, but this way you don't waste your time or theirs.

Hey - I hate it too. I spent about a year and half with this crap - interviews, panel interviews, cover letters, thank you notes.

If you are interested in the job though, follow up for yourself. Don't wait on them. Just do it.

If you leave a message and still nothing, call again. Keep calling. Especially since you are relocating - keep up with the calls. Email this person too if you can.

I would give it a week - if you don't ever get a response, then you have your answer.

Try following up with a thank you letter either type written, or an email. Basically:

Dear employer,
Thank you for taking the time to meet with me and discuss the opportunities that your company has to offer. I am excited to speak to you again about these prospects. I hope to hear from you soon.

Sincerely
The applicant

Tailor it a bit to suit your needs, and see what happens. Good luck.

HR people always play such tricks like ignoring candidates for some day.. this allows them to negotiate more... wait for at least one more day.. wait for their call... if they don't then call and tell them you tried their number couple of time but could not get through

I wouldn't wait any longer than 72 hours (3 days)

It took me three weeks to hear back from an interview. Give them a week. If you don't hear anything back by then, give them a call. Good luck to you.
