Maybe they were children, young people, just at the age to where they would care about being nude in front of anyone else. They obviously were not infants, and unable to care for themselves, just young enough to make mistakes and know right from wrong.

interesting question. points for that! there are a lot of repeat questions floating around... i guess there is no way to know from even the bible as to how old adam and eve actually were - 12? 80? 867? people lived apparently as long as 900 plus years, and some even were bearing children very late in life... i think the story would be even more interesting if they had been created children. kids would have enjoyed the garden a whole lot more, and probably just killed the snake on sight, thus altering biblical history. wowzers.
> used to believe the entire bible to be literal and infallible....

No, when the Bible says that "God created Adam and Eve in his image" Genesis 1:27, it simply means that He created them to think and act like Him. He basically put His ways and feelings into man. When God created them however, He let them choose their own paths of life. That's why Adam and Eve ate the apple off the tree of evil. Hope this helps (:

If they'd been created as children, Adam wouldn't have gone near Eve since she would have had girl cooties. Eve would have been extremely annoyed every time Adam tried to gross her out with that weird eyelid trick.

Well, they could have been children, or close to it, in our eyes.
"Adult" in the time of Moses (when Genesis was penned down) meant anyone over the age of 13. So Adam and Eve could easily have been teenagers.
That would explain the rebellion and lame excuses........

After Adam and Eve sinned, it said God walked in the garden looking for them, asking them to come out of hiding.
So they lived with God in Eden. It was only after the sin that they were cast out and not privvy to the face-to-face relationship. So, God was their father, teaching them, etc.
And God is all powerful. If He wanted to create them as adults, that's His choice. What does it really matter if they were kids or not first?

God the Father who arts in heaven did not create Adam Satan did, Eve needed no man to conceive children, God is our Father.
Did you not believe Jesus when he said "and call no man upon the earth father , for one is your father, even the Christ"
Born not of flesh, nor blood, nor the will of men, but of God.
When Jesus said you are of your father, he was a liar from the beginning, he was talking about god the father (for we called him god) who art in hell.
Read Revelation 12 this is the true story of Eve. Adam was the first beast.

It is psychological metaphor regarding the development of the ego and the power of shame to separate us from our natural unity with god/reality. Adam (reason) slept and Eve (creation aspect of mind) was vulnerable to influence by other egos. It's the story of every child born into this world.

Because if he created children, it would have been hard to fit it into the religious dogma that is the bible. What kind of god would punish children? That wouldn't work, so they made up the story as them being adults, not children.

It seems wiser to create the 1st human pair as adults so that they'd @ least be physically equipped to handle life and be able to take care of themselves and reproduce.
