Im moving to a new apartment rental for only one year, and have wondered the same thing. Is it worth it? If your landlord allows it, and you want to, go right ahead. Its not something that takes too much time or effort (depending upon the size of the room being painted.) I luckily moved into a rental where I happened to like the pre-existing colors. Paint and put your own stamp on the place!

First off, check with your landlord to make sure s/he is ok with you painting the room. For my rental house, I was ok with my tenants painting any room with the stipulation that they painted it back to the basic white when they moved out.
With your landlord's blessing, I say go for it! You're going to be there for at least another year to enjoy it. You might want to check and see what kind of paint is on the wall now - oil-based or water-based...because if you paint using the other type that's not on the wall, you will need to primer the walls first, otherwise, the new paint will peel quickly.

I say it is definately worth painting. You are going to be there for 365 or more days.
This is your home. YOUR home. You need to infuse some of you in there. Find a colour that you love & that you find to be peaceful & relaxing.
A gallon of paint at Walmart is around $14.00. I LOVE the paint pad's. My husband prefer's the rollers. For me, the paint pad is like washing the colour on the wall with a sponge. Paint roller's splash too much for me. So, for around $20-$25 + your labour, you can have a space that is all yours & looks great.
A great place for how to's & inspiration is

One suggestion I will make to you is check your lease. If there is a white wall only clause, make sure you paint the wall back to white, just before moving. You don't want to risk loosing that security deposit.
I hope this helps. Best wishes on customizing your home. :)

If you want it painted, I think it is a cost worth spending on a rental. Consider it for your personal pleasure, rather than a "tangible" item.

yes it's worth it. you have to be in that environment for the next year and should make it as comfortable, serene, cozy and inviting as you can so you can enjoy being at home. and, paint is inexpensive.
make sure its ok with your landlord.

All of those ideas sound great, tbh. The first thought that popped into my head was the library. What about a guest room if you have another friend stay over?

IF
1] it needs painting, and
2] you will use a neutral color, then
3] you can ask the landlord to pay for the paint.

I would, especially to make it feel more "homey". But remember, the landlord might want you to paint it back!

unless the paint is badly peeling or chipped i wouldnt worry or ask your landlord if he/she will share the cost..maybe they might pitch in..that would help.
