Why continue to live? If all we do is live, die, then decompose, why live? If you have a reason to live, you believe in God.

Life is what you make it. My life is pretty good and well worth living. I don't need a sky daddy to make it worth the effort.

Um, no that's wrong, you're first part, "all we do is live, die, then decompose" is correct biologically (the real reason we're here is to make more of ourselves) but we have our own personal reasons to live that may or may not have anything to do with God, like me, I want to live to have kids and be married to a wonderful woman, I also want to make the best out of my life. See, nothing about God in there. You're logic is seriously faulty if you think that someone who has the will to live a reason to life believes in God...

Why does my life need to be given meaning externally? Why can't I simply live for the sake of life because I enjoy existing more than I imagine I would enjoy nonexistence?

You say if I have a reason to live, I believe in God. I have a reason to live: I would rather be alive than dead because I like it better. But I don't believe in God... see how that works?

I could just as easily say that, if you love God so much, why aren't you constantly risking your life so that you can join him sooner? If you have a reason to live, it's because you don't believe in God and don't want to join him.

See how I turned that around?

if living for 80 years would be pointless to you, why would living forever suddenly be meaningful? I think that life is obviously beautiful and fun, but if you don't, how does the length of it matter?
If you need somebody else to explain what you have to do each day, and the answer "because I tell you to" is good enough for you, do you really need God for that? Most people I know have enormous lists of things they would like to get done but don't have the time for. If you have no idea what to do with your life maybe you should ask around if anybody needs some help!

Well. Some people think there is no God [[atheists]] and spend most of their life trying to prove there isn't one. But if you read the Bible and look, you find out there is one. I am a full believer in God and for that I know that I'm going to Heaven one day. You should absolutely continue to live. If you don't go to a church, you should try going to one.

Have you not tried chocolate? Wouldn't you like to try it again?

Flying?

Sex?

Music?

These are entirely secular, and only the tip of the iceberg. The number of reasons to live are more than the hairs on your head or the stars in the sky. Since there is no God, everyone has already found another reason to live.

Really sad argument. Animals don't believe in some manmade deity, yet they strive to live and survive as long as possible. Humans are animals too, and our instinct to protect ourselves and keep living is very strong.

My counter to this ludicrous statement is: If you believe in a god, why do you live? Since supposedly this is a wretched life on earth, and your golden-paved city in heaven will be much better, and for all eternity you will not want.

If there is no God...
...then my life of believing in Jesus Christ has led me to a healthy lifestyle, an appreciation for joy, song, peace and love.
It will have been a life of compassion and empathy, and service to others, and lack many of the catastrophes and diseases of hedonistic lifestyles.

My belief in Jesus therefore, has cost me nothing and won me all that might be expected in this world.

But if there is a God (and yes, I believe His name is Jesus) then upon my death, I enter into His presence and live with him for eternity.

I think that's called a win-win situation.

God may work as a reason to live for you, but it doesn't work for me. There is much one can do in between birth and death. I don't need God to enjoy it. I think the common concept of God is of a petty, wrathful, vengeful man. This in no way enhances my life.

...I see. And all the people, from every other culture in the world, a full 2 billion people world wide who don't believe in the Abrahamic God have no reason to live. No one in the Amazon basin should bother trying to survive. All the people in non-christian Africa are wasting their time. Asia is one big waste of space. Nice.

Nope. Why would I want to die? I'm alive now, so why would I not enjoy it.

This is one of the worst logical arguments against atheism. If there is no God, that is reason to attempt to live and enjoy life as much as possible.
