in school they hit us over the head with bibles.

you are an ignorant non-American. I know plenty of geography and science. not so much history though, because i am horrible at memorizing worthless facts.

your from switzerland, right? isn't that somewhere in the pacific?

EDIT:

in case you didn't gather, the above is sarcasm...I know damn well where Switzerland is.

when you say "BUT DO NOT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT GEOGRAPHY, SCIENCE, OR HISTORY?" you are generalizing, and generalizing the to the whole American public is ignorant!

oh yeah. that's great that you speak 5 languages. you probably have to to get around where you live. I speak English and French and am learning German. Not because I need to, but because I want to.

Actually, most of us aren't even that knowledgeable about Bible verses... Quoting John 3:16 and using it 2 prove every point under the sun doesn't count.

The ppl that do know geography, science and history probably don't waste their time on this website (with the exception of an elite few).

Because there is a very strong Christian influence here.

Blame it on the school system. In High School we are required to take one year of American History and one year of World History. So we learn a lot about our own country, but only briefly about every other country.

As for science, most schools require at least a year of Biology and a year of Chemistry.

It is overrun with Bible thumpers. The other response though was right as well. Many of them only know certain key verses and parts of the Bible that prove their points. As for the education system we have places where people think they should be able to vote and if a majority prefer we should teach their creation stories in place of actual science.

Because many Americans (and I am American) are ignorant when it comes to learning about the world. A lot of Americans will not believe anything unless it is in the bible. I know it is so sad but it is true. I myself am open minded. I love science and learning about the world. I do not read the bible because I choose to stay open to learn about things on my own.

Speak for yourself.

I know more about American Georgaphy, could care less about Europian geography or History.

I'll go up against anyone on science.

Your right though, there are a lot of Americans who never finish highschool

Let's take a brief history lesson........America was the first country ever that was founded completely on Christian principles. There is no pagan history at all......just Christian values. Is it a surprise that most americans end up knowing quite a bit about the bible?

Well I suppose it says something since the bible isn't taught in schools but geography, science, and history is.

WHY ARE WE TYPING IN BIG LETTERS, IT'S CONSIDER RUDE OVER HERE, AND THE ANSWER TO YOUR QUESTION IS, some are all about the bible, other are not. and for you to say that we know nothing of science or history, is well bad. we are Americans, we are the Strong..

Because education in the United States does not come from teachers anymore. It comes from Brittany Spears, Paris Hilton, Xbox, Playstation, cell phones and iPods. Toss in a little too much religion, and you have American youth.
