My son left for USMC bootcamp on Monday out of Milwaukee,WI headed for San Diego. Tuesday morning he called and said they were stuck in Denver airport. We were told we would receive a phone call the evening of his arrival and have yet to receive it. Is there some way I can find out where he is and/or if he has arrived safely? Also, is it true they are instructed to call the 1st evening? Please help! I am worried about my boy!

I understand that you are worried, but God forbid if anything should have happened they would have called. I was supposed to recieve a call as well but I had to wait a week or more for that phone call, and I haven't heard from him in about a month and half. Sometime the DI's take away thier privlages, dont worry you'll get that call, and a letter. He's in my prayers!

Typically calling home is one of the first thing recruits do during in-processing. It's possible he tried to call and wasn't able to get ahold of someone. Also, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday are arrival days for recruits. It won't be until Thursday that they actually start doing... I arrived on a Monday and those first 3 days are hell. I would expect a letter from him next week, the week after at latest, assuming he writes.

Talk to recruiter or call MCRD first before you get in touch with the Red Cross. But make sure you have the Red Cross number in your phone book. Red Cross makes emergency notfication via message to service members, especially overseas or deployed at sea, if there is a death in the family or some other such thing.

Depending on the instructor they may not call, and they most likely will be blocked from calling during boot camp, its part of the transformation. But you should be able to send him a letter. Just call the USMCRD and you can find out his status.

here is the number: 619-524-1775

Here is a link that answers many of these questions.. he will not be able to call after the first day of training http://www.mcrdsd.usmc.mil/FAQ.htm#3

You can call your local red Cross chapter. They can help you get in touch with him. If he is available somewhere, the Red Cross can uasually get a mesage to him telling him to call. It is normal for new recruits to call home on arrival, but they are not all monitored. If you know his flight mubers, you can call the airline for verification of his arrival, or at least the arrival, or non-arrival of his flight.

it's only been a day. the second he got off the bus at MCRD his life was no longer his, and he will be at the mercy of the DIs. he may or may not have been able to give you the courtesy call as soon as he got there.
