I have 3 golden retrievers - all from the same litter - I adore that breed. So loving and compassionate and great with kids. Plus, they love to run and play and tend to be very protective of your home. The perfect all around dog (versatile).

I do not have a particular favorite breed. My favorite type of dog to have as a family member is a rescued dog. We have had 3 dogs that we found on Petfinder.com and they have just been the most wonderful pets!
Our first dog was a blind one, and then we adopted a dog who was so overweight, no one would adopt him! Then, we adopted a little chihuahua who had a soft spot in her forehead, so no one would adopt her. Well, we have had nothing but much love and happiness with these 3 babies.
If you are looking for a new dog, go to Petfinder.com and search for the size and age of dog you might like in your particular area. You will see what dogs are up for adoption. Don't hesitate to adopt a dog who is already an adult or a senior. Most of the time, such dogs of that age are already potty-trained and that is a huge plus when adding a dog to your family.
Good luck and have fun!

I own 2 Miniature Pinschers, so obviously that would be my favorite breed. I also like a wide selection of other dog breeds including Great Dane and all Mastiff breeds, but there are several more. Too many to name them all here.

Golden Retrievers... Best companion you will ever have. For all the reasons Erika mentioned and many many more.
Just a great breed as long as you're not looking for a guard dog.
They will warn you of intruders and will definitely defend you from harm but they are not known for their aggression.
In fact, they are better known for their lack of aggression.
That's not to say there are not any aggressive Goldens but rather that they would be the exception and not the rule.

I absolutely love American Pit bulls they are so friendly. They make excellent companions I would not give my little boy up for the world. It is such a shame that there so many misconceptions about the breed. They are great with children and other animals if socialized properly. They make a great dog, they are very loyal!!
*Punish the deed, not the breed*

Depends on what you want out of a dog and your living situation.
English Bulldogs are great for affectionate and loyatly, but make crappy guard dogs as they love just about anyone.
Rottweilers/Dobermans are good for loyalty and to protect you area if you are in the country or rural areas.
These are my favorite breeds that I have owned, I now have a great pyranese puppy and she is one of the easiest trained and loving dogs I have ever owned. Once again she is a crappy guard dog because she loves attention.
good luck in your search..

I have 2 pound rescues that are mixed breeds (beagle/dobie and jack russell/feist), but my all time favorite breed is the great dane. I'm getting one in a few months.

My rescue dog is about the best dog I have ever seen... Very calm mannered dog. Was shy and scared at first (was abused) but now he is the best. He is a Yorkie and we think Llasa mix.. My next favorite is my little girl Yorkie. Loves to play and make her mommy happy.
