Yes, generally we do. I know for me, and I think I'm probably typical, it's like he's a whole 'nother life form with it's own mind and personality.
It goes along with that old joke: God tells Adam one day that He's very happy with His creation but that He has good news and bad news. The good news is that He's decided to give Adam a brain with which he can exercise dominion over the whole world and a penis with which he can reproduce while having the greatest of pleasure.
Adam tells God that that's all good news. So what's the bad news, he asks?
God replies that he's only giving Adam enough blood to use one of them at a time.

It's funny, I didn't until someone else said that exact same thing, so they I just played along with it and gave it the first name that happened to come into my head.
So it was named Carl... which was later to expanded to Carl P. Nes
