To clear up some confusion about the spelling:

The Qur’ān (Arabic: القرآن ;al-Ä·ur'ān, literally "the recitation"; also sometimes transliterated as Quran, Koran, or Alcoran) is the central religious text of Islam. Muslims believe the Qur'an to be the book of divine guidance and direction for mankind, consider the text in its original Arabic to be the literal word of Allah revealed to Muhammad over a period of twenty-three years, and view the Qur'an as God's final revelation to humanity.

Now, since the Qur'an were not placed on the planes by Islamist Clerics, and since placing them on the planes like that is a blasphemy (you do not SIT above the Qur'an with your bottom on it), they would actually be more inclined to blow the planes up because any desecrated copies of the Qur'an are to be burned in the hottest fires to purify it, and if it is in a place of inequity, that place as well must be burned in the hottest fires, and those that frequent those places of inequity must as well be put to death by any means necessary.

So, no, it wont work - it just makes them more fanatical.

I think it's a great idea. The only thing I'd change is to just put them in those pouches on the backs of the seats so they can be easily seen. The in flight magazines are always so lame anyway.

I sure would like to see a reliable source indicating this is common practice.
