I think you have your information wrong. God never demanded that. If your talking about Jesus then Jesus gave his own life up.

In fact, the law requires that nearly everything be cleansed with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.
Hebrews 9:22
In the Old Testament times, that involved animal sacrifice. Jesus shed His blood and that became the new covenant, no longer requiring animal sacrifice for forgivenss of sins.
I realize you already know that, and that you were asking WHY. I don't attempt to second-guess God on the why part. And no, I'm not a blind sheep, but the concept is much more ethereal this many generations after the actual blood sacrifices were rendered. I know it had to do with the convenant between God and the nation of Israel in the Old Testament. Under the new convenant, the blood of Jesus, who died as an innocent, atones for the sins of all who believe in Him.

you need to study the customs of the times. The reason blood was so important is in those traditional customs. It was believed that the blood held not only the spirit but the deeds of life good or bad. The "scape Goat" was a way to transfer sin to the goats blood and thereby rid you community of the sin it had. and the sacrifice of Innocent blood would purify the blood of the community. There was a blood oath taken in Genisis in the bible. You will need to study that on your own. However, Jesus was to be the fullfillment of that oath. I am not trying to get you to accept this as your religion. You just ask why and this is the answer to your question. You need to understand the culture that the bible comes from to understand what it says.

Because way back when I'm guessing God was a VERY blood thirsty guy/girl, just look at all the battles in the OT and that God said to do this or this...pretty nasty stuff. As for the blood of the innocent, I guess it has something to do with various pagan sacrifices, but since J.C. went up, I'm guessing that was a blood-pact that means Christains can do whatever they want and just say, "I'm sorry, please forgive me" and boom fresh plate and then go and do it again or something...but I like you're point.

The wages of sin is death both normal and eternal death. God is just and gives people what they earn.
Blood was seen as the source of life.
An innocent is someone who has never sinned. Therefore the blood of the innocent Jesus was used to pay the wage of eternal death for all guilty people.
The animals sacrificed in the old testament were to continually remind the Israelites that their sins were serious and required the promised Messiah's saving blood to rescue them.

the penalty for sin is death, so if you sin, you're going to die for it. God has to give justice, bc He is a just God. He isn't able to simply excuse our sin without punishing it. So, God set up a system in which you could offer an animal sacrifice, you'd place your hand on its head, symbolizing your sin transferring from you to the animal, and kill the animal so that you don't have to die. When Jesus came, He lived a perfect life and died, so He became the final sacrifice, in that we can all follow Him, and have your sins placed on Him so that we become sinless and can enter heaven.

Holy Philistine! You're missing the big picture my brother!
God never demanded Jesus die for our sins, Jesus jumped at the opportunity to give up the ghost willingly (it’s all out his LOVE for his children).
Your other reference to animal sacrifices when out in the dark ages (Old Testimate). Although I personally like a nice steak now and again!

Since "no unclean thing can dwell with God" and since "all have sinned" (save Jesus Christ only) it is necessary to meet the demands of both justice and mercy that a savior or redeemer (this same Jesus Christ) be provided for mankind.
In scriptural terms, justice is the unchanging law that brings consequences for actions. Because of the law of justice, we receive blessings when we obey God's commandments. The law of justice also demands that a penalty be paid for every sin we commit.
Mercy is the compassionate treatment of a person greater than what is deserved, and it is made possible through the Atonement of Jesus Christ. Our Heavenly Father knows our weaknesses and sins. He shows mercy when He forgives us of our sins and helps us return to dwell in His presence.
As used in the scriptures, to atone is to suffer the penalty for sins, thereby removing the effects of sin from the repentant sinner and allowing him or her to be reconciled to God. Jesus Christ was the only one capable of carrying out the Atonement for all mankind. Because of His Atonement, all people will be resurrected, and those who obey His gospel will receive the gift of eternal life with God.
