It used to be if a law enforcement officer was in uniform a restaurant would either greatly discount or give them free their meal. I was just curious if that were still true today?

i don't have a restaurant and neither am i saying they should or shouldn't get a discount...i was just curious. as for those who spit or mess with anyone's food including cops..thats very immature and nasty...just remember if you do it then there is someone out there probably doing it to you too ! i hope so anyway.

Depends on the restaurant. Many law enforcement agencies have a policy against receiving such gratuities.

I've had that happen occasionally, but folks don't necessarily see prison guards as public servants. Usually the ones doing it are the mom and pop places that need the revenue, not the corporate places that have plenty of dough. I always try to leave a 50% tip or something if they do, because that's really nice. IHOP is the only corporate place that I know of that still does it.

I worked at a cafe/restaurant and we never discounted their food and I hated all the local police and I would always be REALLY nice so I'd get a good tip but I also spit in it and dropped it on the floor. Oopsies!

I never did, neither did any other restaurant I worked for. Water was the only free thing.

I work at a gas station. Police that come in get free coffee/fountain pop and I give them our employee discount on whatever else they buy. It's just my way of saying thanks. I've had one or two think I'm hitting on them and they throw in they have a wife in the conversation.

They used to give you the meal completly free, to keep drunks out and to prevent robberies, some places still do that in Texas.

Absolutely. If you do, they will return and there's nothing better than having the police eat at your establishment. You will be safe from criminals and the public believe if the police like it, it must be good.
