Shaving the head gives the lice little to grasp to stay attached to the head. The main reason for cutting is to lower the temperature of the scalp. Lice primarily stay in the areas of hair that are warm and dark. Girls generally have longer hair and you will find that the lice stay at the base of a ponytail, nape of the neck, or behind the ears. Cutting the hair very short will cause an insufficient ambient temperature for lice to live in. While effective, some patients may find the hair removal aesthetically unappealing which is why many turn to other cures, typically requiring some form of chemical to be applied.

NO, Head lice can jump 3 feet. You dont have to go that extreme. Go to a drug store and buy Rid. Use as directed and wash all sheets towels, blankets and pillow cases in hot Bleach water. If you have a severe case, use a bug bomb in your house and leave for 4 hours. Be sure to remove all pets, plants and fish for the same amount of time. A word of caution, buy a big bottle of Pantene conditioner to use after you rinse the Rid out of your hair because it stripe all oils out of your hair and you will NOT get a comb through it. Also remove all eggs from hair. They look like salt stuck on the roots of your hair. I dont care what they say, you cant comb out the eggs, you have to pull each one down your hair strand to get em off.

No. You need to go to the store and get some special shampoo for lice and there is also a spray for your linens and sofas or chairs. You will need to pull off all of your linens and wash them in Hot water.

Shaving effectively rids you of lice! I had them for two years. Tried every known treatment. I am a woman, and if you are female; prepare yourself for emotional devastation. But, They are gone. They cannot live more than two days with no hair to attach to and no human blood to live on. No hair, no blood and nowhere for them to attach the eggs. You do not have to treat anything else UNLESS you have people in the house with hair. My hubby is bald; so no further treatment was necessary.

I would think they would just go to hair in other areas of the body. Go get special shampoo at a drug store to kill them. And make sure to wash your sheets and clothes in hot water.
