My partner and I have been to see the neurologist and the doctor did various physical tests.

The neurologist beleives my partner may have multiple scleosis.

We have to wait for an MRI appointment, for about 2 months.

The neurlogist said that he needed to get a chest X-RAY and blood tests as well today. What is he looking for there?

Any advice and suport greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure about the chest X-Ray, but the blood tests are for general health including liver functions. The X-Ray and the blood tests will not diagnose MS. The doctor may be anticipating drug treatment and wants to know the health of the patient.

The MRI will be able to see if the MS is active and if any attacks have left scars on the brain.

Be sure to write your questions down so you are sure to ask them and get answers. You both are going through an overwhelming time right now and it isn't easy to think quickly when you are receiving info so quickly. I always go to the doctor with my husband so we both hear what he has to say. I can't absorb the whole conversation at once.

Be sure to question the neurologist, even if once you have left the office. You will have a lot of questions, just like this one and you deserve to get complete answers to them.

Good luck to you.

Before such a serious diagnosis would be made, all other probabilities need to be ruled out. I suppose they are trying to rule out infection/viral causes, such as M.E or other immune system related conditions. The diagnosis dictates the treatment, so it's imperative they get it right.
