Since when does accepting someone mean you can't be critical of them? The fact that I may tolerate someone does nothing to validate their viewpoints, only that I'm extending some base respect to them as a person.

Look at it from the perspective of buying a car. The more you know, the better the car you're going to get for the money you spent. If you are simply fixated on buying a Chevy or a Ford because you grand-daddy always bought Chevy or Ford, does not mean that in the ever changing car market that is the best choice. However, if you buy a Chevy or a Ford because you understand your choices, then that makes you open minded and smart. Open minded individuals accept narrow minded individuals because we have no choice. It's the opposite that is mostly true, that the closed minded do not accept the open minded and the reason they don't accept the open minded is because they feel they have no choice. Do you see that now?

But I think that to be open minded does not imply not to be critical... It means to "accept", as you said, everybody...
You can accept someone and as well to be critic respect him...
So, the sentence would be: open minded people have to accept narrow-minded individuals. Just that...
By the way... do you consider yourself an open minded person or a narrow minded one?

It's a good theory, but maybe open-minded people are wrong. In that case, they would be incorrectly accepting narrow-minded people, thus disproving your theory. Plus, open-minded doesn't mean that they have to accept everybody. Open-minded people can reject the existence of UFOs, or even that the Loma Prieta occurred. It just means that they're open to new ideas.

Open-minded people do not have to accept everybody, they just have to accept the fact that they're different, as for us open-minded people having to not be critical of narrow-minded people, do you not know what critical means? Technically it means being perceptive, such as having a critical mind, or being a critic to someones paper and finding mistakes, so does that mean proofreading your or someone Else's paper and then criticizing them (meaning pointing out their mistakes) being narrow minded? Or does that mean we're trying to help someone out? Just like what Christians do, Christians go around "Spreading the Word of God" and if they don't, you bash them. So much for being open-minded for that huh? So, being critical is just pointing out someones mistakes. And open-minded people accept the narrow-minded people, but we just try and wake them up, that's all.
-EDIT- Open minded means u can see from different perspectives. you arent set in a single mindset. True definition of open-mindedness

Um... you're assuming that acceptance means that someone can't be critical of someone else.
Also, all this proves is that narrow-minded people won't be criticized by open-minded people. That has nothing to do with correctness.

It would be either Narrow minded people can not accept anybody and Open minded people have to accept everybody.
Or it would be Narrow minded people won't accept everybody and Open minded people will accept everybody.

Yes I think that the person can not call him/her self as "open-minded" untill they accept that there are "narrow-minded" people around without being upset or offensive about this fact.

Open-minded people are more accepting of other people but that does not mean they have to like them. It just means they are more tolerant and patient than those who are narrow-minded and judgmental.
Narrow-minded people often have trouble accepting new ideas and new experiences, but that doesn't mean they can't change.

Open minded individuals can acknowledge narrow minded people....it is not written in stone that they must suddenly accept the narrow minded people's views.
Therefore.....narrow minded individuals see no one's view except their own...and open minded individuals can "understand" a narrow minded person's views....but does not agree with them at all.
