I have a fully healed scar on my arm. It doesn't hurt or ooze or anything like that, but it looks terrible. It's a huge white blotch. Can I tan this away? Or should I avoid the sun?

Please help, and thanks!

Tanning will make the scar more noticeable. You should use sunscreen on the scar to protect it. My son had surgery on his arm when he was in the 2nd grade. The doctors told us to put sunscreen on it or it will look worse as he gets older. I also had surgery on my eyelids a few weeks ago and the doc told me the same thing again. Best wishes to you.

Normal because the skin that forms a scar has been damaged, it will not tan. If you tan, the scar will be more noticable, not less. If you are considered about the scar, talk to your doctor. There are simple processes that cam be used to remove a scar. If it is not to deep, they "sand it off", leaving the healthy skin below it.

There are also creams that can be applied over time to reduce or eliminate minor scars.

Don't avoid the sun, but you can't tan it away. There are creams for making scars less visible over time.
