I am a recovering Catholic so I feel you. One must find their own Faith and Spirituality. It is a very pers and Private thing.
I found myself looking to tangible things like our Wonderful Earth and all it's natural beauty, the Sun, Moon and Stars.

Perhaps you are seeing God as only a Judge, looking down on you with a huge pointing finger, condemning you. You need to get to know Him as the loving Father He is, not like any human father. What He wants for you is always what's best because He knows you better than you know yourself, and despite that, He loves you more than you'll ever really know. He knows everything about you. He made you. He knows about your struggles and desires. Seek Him now while you have the chance and find the Truth in Him. That is where the meaning lies. He's the only one who can truly fill that void you're feeling. The Christian teachings and models you grew up with must have missed the mark somehow. I hope your journey will soon be a fulfilling and amazing one.

The bible is metaphorical, providing clues related to the internal psychological journey of overcoming (transcending) your little, learned, fearful, uncertain identity. Jesus' whole life story is metaphorical for the process of ego death and resurrection of the authentic (Christ) Self. Why? What's the point?? Because god/reality mirrors the contents of consciousness. You can create the life you want - an experience of 'eternal aliveness' or heaven. All religions offer unique paths to accomplish this. Maybe Buddhism or Hinduism or Islam or whatever would be more helpful. Explore different paths to get a grasp of the fundamentals.

Seeking meaning from the nonsense is the first step. Have courage!

No one can "grow up" Christian, nor be born Christian. being of The True Christian Faith has nothing to do with what family one is born into.. or what country... or what ethnic group... no one can just decide to be a Christian... no man, priest, pastor, doctrin or dogma or book can decree any one to be a Christian... Only God decides who will receive His free gift of Salvation. Only those who come to God in The Way He prescribes Receive The Gift of Salvation. Those become part of The Body of The Church of which Jesus The Christ is The Head. Those are the ones of The True Christian Faith.

Only those open to the leading of God, through The Holy Spirit, will find what God has for them in The Bible. The Bible is not intended for those not of The Faith.

As you reject God you will have to seek "meaning" in a place other than The Bible... But if you want it to be an ever lasting peace you will have to find The Way to God.

You might of grown up with christians, but that doesn't mean you are a christian. To be a christian you have to repent of your sins, surrender your life to christ, and invite Jesus into your heart. Once you do this God will show you your meaning. The bible is not evil, its the only thing by which we can stand against evil. What is your want?

email me for a dialogue if that interests you. i also grew up christian and for the majority of my life was a very devoted person to my faith. not having had the choice to grow up this way, going to church EVERY sunday for years and years, youth group, vacation bible school, bible study, christian summer camps, etc. meant that i really was kept from experiencing spiritiuality as a choice, as a personal journey. it was basically laid out for me, and i had to walk that path as a child, because children are very malleable and not ready to make decisions.

once i was in late high school, and college, i was able to read the bible again as an educated adult and i now see it in a very different light. the years that have passed since college have been even more revealing as i process my experience growing up in an exclusively christian family on both my mother and father's side of the family, church leaders and guest preachers/bible study teachers included.

the bible looks a LOT different to me know, and i have come to new understandings and conclusions, have lots of questions, most importantly! i never questioned any of it growing up. its long overdue, and i am healing day by day and recovering my spirit as a person that is not religiously defined.

EDIT: to the person who answered right after/below me... you are getting a little carried away there. i never said that being born into christianity was the determining factor thereby making me christian. you spouted off several personal feelings about what a REAL christian is and what the requirements are. let me teach you something, you may not have come across: "If you believe with your heart and confess with your mouth that jesus christ is lord you will be saved." ---- humans (not god, or bible writers...) came up with other add-ons like: asking the lord to forgive you for all your sins and inviting him into your heart forever to live and abide, to fully submit your will to god's will, accept the free gift of salvation, and ... Live according to the rules handpicked by present day "christians" and THEIR interpretations of scripture. no one is qualified to speak for god. go read up.
((peace))

Because your lost and that was not meant to be disrespectful

If you do not know where you came from or where you are going and why you are here by definition you are lost

And in so being you are out of the realm of reality

I believe it is time to get back to your Christian roots and begin your journey again

You have to come to terms with the possibility that there is no meaning.

So what? The sun is going to rise whether there is a greater purpose to it or not. You are going to live either way, why waste time and energy worrying about it?

Because, youre looking in the wrong places.

Youre looking for life to give you some meaning. Its the other way around. YOU have to give your life some meaning.

Good luck.
