I dont think so. I think they are religious because of existential crisis. The deep rooted feeling that everyone has. The notion that on a certain level we are completely utterly alone. They choose to fill in this aloneness with an imaginary god critter. Personally when I am laying in bed at night and that feeling comes I let it completely overload my senses. Just floating in a mental space of nothingness. I think people avoid these times. I can remember a time when I did.

Many theists seem to be incapable of imagining (probably a result of programming) that someone else might be able to find meaning and happiness in his life without religion. Therefore, all atheists must be miserable and unfulfilled.

I think religious people believe that Atheists are empty because that's part of their belief.

I dont think people think much at all about atheists, When I do its really kind of like wondering what they would think or do in situations. I kinda do feel sorry for them, its such a comfort to believe that we are going to live forever and that our lives are not meaningless as they would have to be if there were no God.

People 'imagine' without regard to race, creed, gender or national origin. Religion has done the most damage. It is what I have chosen as "not necessary" behavior. Who and what I choose to be is MY affair. My "God" is more pwerful than most and I keep in close proximity to my cosmic 'family'. Trust me...you don't want to mess with a storm as powerful as we can generate in our wrath.

I, for one, don't think that atheists are, by virtue of being atheists, "empty".
And I certainly don't need to look down on them to feel good about my life.

No, but rather because a life lived without meaning is hollow. Hollow=empty. Since atheists don't believe there is or should be a meaning to life, and since it has no point, I don't imagine their lives to be empty, I take them at their testimony that they are.

I am religious, but I will only speak for myself. I actually don't care about atheists as long as they don't insult anything that has something to do with me as a person.

I imagine atheists are tired of the ceaseless attempts on the part of zealots to de-secularize our society.
