For A While I've Wanted A Tattoo Of Jack And Sally From The Nightmare Before Christmas On My Back. The Only Problem Is Everyone I Know Thinks It's A Bad Idea. They Think I'll Regret It In A Few Years. I Am A Bit Concerned Myself Because I Don't Want People Thinking I'm A Dumb Emo Kid Who Wants To Look Like Pete Wentz. Should I Just Go For It?

how long is "for a while"? if you mean like 6 months... keep waiting. if it's been a couple of years then maybe you should get it. i don't see the nightmare before christmas being "emo" that movie was around long before emo or whatever. if you like the movie and relate to it... then get it tattooed on you. lots of people have them, just check out rate my ink.com
i have seen a lot of jack and sally tattoos and frankly some of them have really sucked. the MOST important thing to do is to chose an artist that is talented and will be able to give you a tattoo that is worth having. don't go to your friend's friend's tattoo artist beause they can give you a good deal. do some research and look at lots of portfolios so you can be sure of what you're getting.

Not precisely a recent movie, so the "it's cool now" factor isn't as much at work. I saw someone with a similar tattoo at a convention in San Francisco some months back & it was rather well done.

I think it depends on how long "a while" is. I'm pretty fond of Burton's work myself, but with any kind of tattoo that can't just be a few weeks/months of generally liking it. There is also a question of size & location. A full back piece is a rather different commitment than a piece near the left or right shoulder blade.

There is also how much you're concerned about the reactions of others. For me, the only person who can influence me on these kinds of decisions is my gf/"wife" (we're not married, but at 17 years we've been together longer than many marriages). Even then it's mostly artistic suggestions; everyone else can take a leap if they don't like what I'm doing. If this isn't the case for you - because you're always going to find someone who doesn't like what you've done - then you might want to hold off. Do this when you're sure & the words of others won't cause buyer's remorse.

Your body is your canvas and nobody elses. You are entitled to do what you want with your body. I think if that's what you want, consider the consequences: will you always be into the emo lifestyle. It's possible you may grow out of it, and I'm only speaking from experience, because it happens to some. It may not happen to you and if you want to get that tattoo then get it. Whatever makes you happy. You can't expect people to understand your reasonings all the time, because they won't, they aren't you.

Hope that helps. =)

No, not if you are not sure you will always love it. I have SEVERAL tattoos and have regretted a few. I had my ex-husbands name tatted on me (covered up since of course) and a really bad fairy tattoo (ugly baby w/google eyes - not the beautiful little girl expected). I am very happy that I did not get some of the tattoos I considered in the past - like the TweetyBird my friend got and tried to convince me to get so we could have the same one - GAY!! Be sure - they are forever....Good luck!

You should do what you want without fear of what other people are going to think. whatever tattoo you get someone will always have a problem with it. Tattoo's are personal and should be something that you want to get, not something your friends would approve of you getting. I have a few and I usually only tell one or two close friends what I am getting beforehand, that way I don't have to hear other people's opinions of it.

If it really means something to you and you think that you will still like it in 20 years or so, go for it! It's your body and only you can decide whether it's a good idea or not! =)
