As a general rule you are right. I enjoy hunting and fishing and I have found that most of the time an animal will not attack you unless it feels threatened, or if you get to close to its young. More times than not an animal will go out of their was to stay away from you. There are some exceptions to the rule like with everything else. I mean if you are walking along the edge of some water and an alligator jumps up and grabs you. Well he is hungry and you are now the main course on the menu. The same with some other wild animals. Over all if you will just stay far enough away from them so they do not feel like they are in danger than all should be OK. The main thing is always be on guard and watch what you are doing and what they are doing.

It is true that most wild animals will leave you well enough alone if you leave them alone. There are a few reasons why a wild animal will attack a human without the human doing something: 1. to protect their young. If there are cubs in the den or babies somewhere the mother will usually attack for little or no reason if you get to close with out realizing it 2. in some cases the animal has just found its "kill" and is protecting its meal or 3. Just like a human an animal can have some form of a mental disorder in which case there is nothing you can do if a random animal decides to attack.
On a different note, Humans only have one natural preditor. The Polar Bear. The Polar Bear is the only animal that will actualy hunt a human as prey and kill it for food. Other wise most attacks by other animals fall into one of the above catergories or human idiocy. Good luck hun, I hope I have answered your question.

on the contrary, if im walking through the woods and see a bear why would it attack me for simply walking through the woods... You here about wild dogs and other animals attacking kids while kids are playing... What makes a rabid animal come after a human for no reason except the human just being there? Some animals attack because they are scared when a human has not done much of anything to make it scared... Theres two sides to everything and just because you respect an animal doesn't mean the animal will not hurt you. What about that guy that use to do shows with that white tiger? I bet he respected that tiger and raised that tiger from birth, but the tiger still bit him one day and killed him. I'm not saying all animals attack for no reason, but animals will do anything including killing if they are scared even when they have no reason to be.
God Bless

you are absolutely right, wild animals will not hurt a human unless threatened. it is interesting to know that the human flesh is the most unappetizing in the animal kingdom and no animal actually wants to savor it unless compelled. the exception is when a wild cat turns into a man eater, which is not by choice but compulsions like old age when it is unable to catch more fleeter animals or it has been wounded and cannot hunt for food, than and only than it devours human flesh as a means of survival. under no circumstances would a wild animal including snakes, wild cats, lions, tigers, bears etc attack a human unless they feel threatened. those of us who love nature should let the animals be and only shoot with a camera or just watch their majestic movements and wonder how GOD created so many beautiful things. PS:- I know what I am talking about as I have spent many a nights in the jungle as a qualified commando.

Because alot of times people invade there territory like people who come up with the bright idea that they need to go hiking or bike riding in mountain lion territory.they are warne not to do this but go anyway and get attacked and then they want the animal killed. They should have listened,if there is a warning about an animal most likely u will be attacked.they are being forced higher and higher or further away and there is no food so if they have an opportunity to take it they will.People should not go into another animals territory and not expect something to happen to them, they could see u as a threat to them or ther family even if thats not wut u intended. If u love nature make sure u respect it and the creatures living in it by giving them their space and not trying to study them to find out what ull never understand.people think they understand animals, but they fail to realize that they are studying only the behavior when they sense humans, and seeing as how alot of animals are more intelligent then some humans they know when your there when you think they dont

You have been watching too much TV... any animal will hurt you, wild or not, if they feel threatened. And unless you are very expert concerning "wild" animals you will not know what may set one off. I have been within feet of bear and wolves in the wild and had them basically ignore me or just give warning not to get closer... but I have also been charged by bear for no reason I could understand... as I, as a animal loving human had no intention of hurting them in any way... but... of course they have no way of knowing that... I too have helped many injured and sick animals... unfortunately some by having to put them down... and an injured animal is extremely dangerous... bear and cougar and wolves will enter camps at night and will attack without warning... wolves are the least likely to attack a human but they do as well... unfortunately we live in a society that likes to anthropomorphize and this has brought on the extremist animal rights nuts... thank to the likes of Disney and company and the ridiculous ways animals are portrayed in movies... a lot of those cute "wild" animals will eat you if they get the chance... and the only reason will be because they are hungry and they can.

For 200,000 years, human beings have hunted down and killed animals that preyed upon them. This is still done, even today. When a mountain lion kills a hiker, the park service tracks it down and shoots it. Human beings and thier ancestors have also had fire for even longer - and animals instinctively avoid fire.
Most wild animals will avoid you rather than attack or try to eat you, because that's just a good survival instinct. However, some animals are not as shy of humans as they used to be - bears in Yosemite, for instance - and many will attack you if surprised, cornered, or molested.
Animals also become more likely to be dangerous to humans the more they learn to associate humans with food, and not associate them with danger. So, when tourist feed the aforementioned bears at Yosemite, they increase the likelihood of bear attacks in the future.
Similarly, you are likely conditioning some of the animals in your area to have less fear of humans. That could lead to those animals presenting a nuisance or danger to others in the future.

First of all, even if you mean well that doesn't mean a wild animal is going to understand that. There's always a chance a wild creature will mistake your intentions for a threat and attack. Always respect animals - especially their wildness. It's not a fluffy Disney movie out there. We live in a wooded area and am very respectful of the deer (especially the bucks) because I know they can hurt me or my son if we get too close. Your best way to love nature is to enjoy it from a safe distance, not hands on.
Another problem comes from habituating wild animals to humans. It leads to LOTS of trouble for the animals in the long run, especially if a human is injured as a result. If you feed or get the animals too familiar with humans, you aren't doing them any favors.

I've had friends that were attacked by wild animals and if you read various statistics (depending on environment and which anmimals you are referring to), you'll find that some animals are known for attacking people who live or camp out in the wilderness, such as, the black bear, grizzly bear, snakes, etc - in the safari its a statistical fact that Hippos attack roughly 170 people (mostly tourists) per year, that's not counting lions, elephants and other wild animals - although keeping your distance from these beasts may help, animals have issues with territory in general and are not always easy to deal with, sometimes its a wolf who is hungry and YOU are available capishe?

I think for the most part if you leave animals alone they won't hurt you. But nature is nature and sometimes animals may attack. What about rabies? If you stay away from them they won't have a chance to hurt you. Also remember if animals have been mistreated by OTHER humans just because YOU respect them doesn't mean they won't hurt you.
