She fights me when I get her dressed, change her diaper, put her in the car seat, take her to daycare, bath time- everything. This all started a few weeks ago. Now in the morning she wants me to hold her when I need to be getting ready, at night she wont let me hold her unless Im busy doing dishes etc. Then of course she throws a fit until I pick her up.

okay first off ignore her and go about your business and if she throws a fit then give her some good old fashioned disipline in the form of a swat on her bottom which she so richely deserves at this point due to the fact that she is throwing fits . she is old enough to understand that if she throws fits she will get spanked in return . be strong and you will have a well adjusted child ,give in to her and you will have a spoiled brat . good luck .

Wow - I am right here with you. My 21 month old is doing the same stuff. She seems to be testing the boundaries of right and wrong at every step. I've found that keeping her busy and occupied has helped to control some of her craziness. (You know - the old "idle mind is the devil's workshop" idea...)

I'm also trying to block out some time when I just play or read with her since she seems to be craving and needing my undivided attention.

She usually calms down after she's had some positive one on one time with me. But as you know the fights seem to come out of nowhere at times. I think that they're smarter than their bodies right now. They have big ideas that they just can't act on and it's frustrating to them. When she's being completely wild I just take her in her room and make her sit for a few minutes while I quietly talk her down and get her back under control.

When my daughter is clinging to me I try to remind myself that there will be times when she'll want nothing to do with me.

Also, check in the back of her mouth. The 2 year molars might be popping through and causing her pain.

Stay calm yourself. It'll get better. Don't spank or hit or yell. It'll only make both of you feel bad.

Good luck!

I think all kids want your attention once your busy with something. Mine start soon as I pick up the phone. I think it's the age. It's probally just a stage. Just try explaining it to her, give her something to do with you in the kitchen while you wash dishes. Give her a little make-up brush and an empty eye shadow to play with while you get ready in the morning. She wants to do what Mom does.

This may not sound very appealing but please give that child a nice wack on her behind. Trust me that's how the whole generation grew up forty years ago, and they're all doing fine and well.
Example: Bill gates, george bush, your parents/grandparents.

Children learn when physical punishment intervenes. But when your daughter is being good make sure you give her hugs and kisses and play nicely with her. This way your child will know when I'm good, I get rewarded with affection. When I'm bad I get slapped on my hand. Ouch!

This is very affective! Just try it. Don't be too gentle, or too rough. Be assertive.

Sounds like she is asserting herself. She is trying to see what she can get away with. I always try to do the "house" work after my daughter is in bed or get her to help me with it. (she is 26 months) I have had an easier time getting things done that way I also use the word "how about you HELP mommy" and not you need to let me do this..

Example
You need to let me get you dressed!

Change it to

Can you HELP Mommy get you dressed!

I can almost get my daughter to do anything this way!!!
