I KNOW it's her treats that did it. Reason is because she got an upset stomach a few weeks ago which lasted about 2 days. SO she had treats yesterday and the same thing happened. That's how I know it HAS to be the treats. I threw the treats out, they obviously aren't agreeing with her. She pooped really watery early this morning. She has pedialyte but I was wondering if (like humans) dogs had some kind of Pepto that can be bought OTC. I am almost for CERTAIN it's the treats and nothing serious. Although if it does persist I will take her to my vets office IMMEDIATELY but he doesn't open until 5 p.m. (for those of you who right away want to ASSUME that someone is being a neglectful owner). I just need something to hold her over. Thanks guys!

Pepto Bismo. 1 tsp per 5 lbs every 6 hours.

Good call on throwing out the treats!

You can try to either give your dog a little bit of yogurt, which sometimes will clear up the diarrhea more naturally. The bacteria in it will help your dog's system get regulated faster. Just be sure to get plain, full fat yogurt - this kind works best.

If that doesn't work, you can give your dog Pepto, but you'll want to call your vet to ask for the proper dosage. I know that lots of people give their dogs Pepto over the counter.

Good luck, and I hope your pup feels better soon!

Hold off food for now, water is fine as long as she doesn't throw it back up. Call the vet at 5, there are human anti-diarrhea meds that dogs can take, the vet can give you the right dosage for your dog. Ditch the treats, and put some dog food in a candy dish to use instead. She'll still get attention and a reward, without the tummy upset.

One Immodium pill for a dog over 50 #. 1/2 a tablet if under 50#. Can be repeated after a few hours if no effect, but I've never had to give a second dose. There is some concern about using this drug in Collies. Talk to your vet first.

My vet recommended Kaopectate, which I've been using for years when needed. The dose is 1/2 - 1 ml per pound, every 4 hours, but I've never given a dog more than 2 doses, then wait to see if another is needed.

Over The Counter Anti Diarrhea

We have given our dogs pepto. I am not sure on the dosage, but I do think it was a vet recomendation. I think we even started using it on the cats. But we had to give it to one of our dogs with their medicine because of how rough it was on the tummy. That one came from the doc. You can even use kaopectate. Maybe even look for a childrens version of an anti-diarrhea. Those are usually safest. I hope this helps.

What kind of dog?? Larger dogs can have Kaopectate about 1-2 cc's. Kaopectate and pepto- bismol have added something that is not good for dogs and it messes with little dogs harsher. you can get stuff OTC at a pet store for them and a bigger dog.

You definitely do not want your dog to get dehydrated. If you want to jump start her feeling better, give a tablespoon of Karo Dark Syrup, molassas, or Honey. This always helps my Yorkies. I have a problem with their stomach also, so this is what I do. The vet will prob not be able to do anything besides tell you not to give those treats again. Good luck
