I thought my father dumb since I turned 12, and I have yet to be proven incorrect.

Hello ,
We all think when we are young we can s hit a brick and build a great outhouse. Doesn't usually work out. Older people have experience and maybe when they are telling you how to get along and avoid a lot of trouble and grief they learned the hard way when they were young... in short learn by other's mistakes or great experiences.
Many generations before Sammuel Clemmens, one of the greatest minds of the ancient world, Atistotle said, " You cannot put older heads on younger bodies!'I agree more with him than aka Mark Twaine.

deja vu, 2nd time today for this one.
Depends. If the father is really dumb he'll be right. If the father and the son are both really dumb, then the son may think the father is really smart.

Despite the fact that my dad was "never there" for me growing up, I know he's one of the most intelligent people I'll ever meet. I was just too ignorant to know that when I was younger, and now I know my dad has a lot of skeletons in his closet, as do the rest of us. So no, I don't agree.

Dear friend,
What you are saying is contrary to the Bible and you are encouraging rebellion against the commandments of God-this is not good.
"Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right.
2 Honour thy father and mother; which is the first commandment with promise;
3 That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth."

when i was 15 i hated me step-father thought he was just being mean and i also thought he was dumb, now that i'm 22 i understand why he was the way he was. he wasn't dumb, i just didn't agree with how he was raising me but now i know it was for the best. now i have a job making more money than he is, about 25,000 more than he makes in a year[50,000/75,000] i'm i'm glad he raised me the way he did

Yes, and at 40 he understands how dumb he is to have thought it in the first place.

That's Samuel Clemens, no "T."
And yes, that is how I was at 21. I found out that good old "Mark" was right after all though.

That was mostly my experience, but the older I get the more I realize how intelligent my father was after all.

What do you think about the words of Pliny the Elder who said, [paraphrased] "These young people now are dumb as clucksh*t!"?
I agree with him. How about you?
