Whatever the scale of the ceremony, your Big Day is excuse enough to have that really pretty dress. Another reason you should dress up is because there would obviously be pictures taken and remember that the picture will be there forever. Also, the Justice of Peace is always dressed up at the ceremony no matter how grand it is. You should also do likewise, or more so as you are the star of the show. Imagine, other people spent thousands of dollars renting gowns at studios just to do the pictures with no guests present. You have more reason to do it. Come on!! Here comes the bride, all clean and white ..........

People do it every day.
You can wear what you like to a private wedding before a JP from a tee shirt and jeans to a full wedding gown with a train. It's entirely your choice. And if there's going to be a reception for your friends afterwards, I think something pretty and at least a little 'brideish' is a good idea.
I'd recommend a tea length or floor length dress and perhaps some flowers in your hair. That way you look lovely and festive and bridal, but aren't trying to maneuver a long train and a hoopskirt through City Hall or the courthouse.
Just a suggestion.
Whatever you choose, I'm sure you'll look lovely and have a happy wedding. Best of luck to you and your intended.

RE:
Justice of the Peace wedding?
Can you have a really pretty dress when you get married at a Justice of the Peace? Would that look weird? We are just going to have the wedding at the justice of the peace cause we are not going to have one of those huge weddings just one with a few family members and a couple of friends we think...

Sure! If you want to wear white, look at informal or destination wedding dresses. A good amount of them are tea-length or just less formal than typical wedding gowns. Go to White House Black Market. They have many beautiful while cocktail dresses. Take your husband out and get a great suit for him (its a great excuse to spurge on a nice suit he'll wear forever!). If you don't care to wear white, just get a great dress. Just because you're not having a huge wedding doesn't mean you can't look great.
Good luck and best wishes!

I would hope you do wear your beautiful dress! Wearing nice clothes is one way of saying that an event or day is special and/or important, and so you should match how you feel about the day.
I can promise you that the JP often sees people dressed to the teeth for their wedding and will hardly be surprised or think it is weird. And unless you wanted to have a nude wedding inside the courthouse, almost nothing you could wear will shock them!

hon, wear a nice & special dress - it's your wedding! Target has some lovely wedding dresses on-line, and even the prom dresses at Deb store or Windsor would be fine - you could also wear a "dressy suit". Have a corsage or small bouquet of flowers. Best of Luck!

Yes- you can have any dress you want, even at a JOP ceremony. This is your day- whether it be in a church or at the courthouse, it's still your wedding. So if you want a fancy dress, go for it!
