Some scholars believe that Jesus (at least at first) was a proper messiah along the lines of David, preaching for the overthrow of the Roman shackle and freedom for the Hebrew Nation.
There is debate about when he became a symbol for peace.
Some say that he started suing for peaceful revolution after being baptized by John. Others say that it was much later.
Either way, he would have alienated many of his followers. That may have been when he had his falling out with Judas.
Judas most likely joined Jesus hoping for a violent overthrow of Roman rule. When Jesus began preaching peace Judas either became disgusted with him and wanted him gone, or decided to push him to force violence from him.
Jesus as a popular symbol of peace did not become popular until after the Roman Jewish Wars about 50 years later.

I am glad that I read the reply of Phillip C. I had to go back and read it again starting a little earlier in the chapter. It truly IS a parable and thus becomes very subjective. Jesus was quoting a person in a story. You have to look deeper than the literal content.

read the whole passage if you really want to understand. You have taken a part of a parable, which is a story used for teaching, out of its context and used it as a quote. This is the same as me saying bongernet told me to slay people before him on yahoo answers by taking that part of your question out of context. Look up the word context too.

No matter what anyone says....the bible was written by man. The bible should not be perceived as total truth because its not....I dont believe that an honest and just sovereign lord would make anyone sacrifice or kill anything in his name....MY God doesn't do that MY God is a peaceful man, MY God is caring and loving and forgiving, MY God is not a murderer. In other words I think that early men in high positions wrote this book to deceive. It seems to me that you can not walk into a church and the word "MONEY" is not the center of attention. I would not suggest reading the bible as the "WHOLE" truth. Explore other religions and form your own it is YOUR relationship with YOUR God that will save you!

Sweet, scour the bible for one passage, then take it out of context. Maybe you should read the verses around this one to get the full meaning of what is being said. Maybe you should realize that the bible isn't meant to be taken literally, it is filled with parables and tales that give meaning. Maybe you should take a quick glance at a thing called 'The Ten Commandments.' I believe that's in the bible too, says something to the effect of 'THOU SHALT NOT KILL.' Never mind, it's much easier to ignore all of that and to take one verse and criticize Christianity because of it. Good work!

Jesus was telling people a story, about a king that people hated and the king said "Now where are my enemies who didnt want me to be king? Bring them here and kill them before me." NIV version is easier to understand.

its right there in the verse
"which would not that I should reign over them..."
these are people who REFUSE to accept their Lord and Master. Refusal to accept who He is does not negate the fact that He is Lord, like it or not. I'm pretty sure He isn't giving permission to kill unbelievers (although some have), it is more a statement of His authority.

Luke wrote it. Luke meant it. It doesn't say Jesus19:27.
If Jesus ever existed he wouldn't have taken part in your silly Bible.
