First of all... excellent question! A humanitarian, although very giving and forgiving... can overlook some flaws that should not be overlooked in people... A cynic, while very critical and possibly judgemental, questions everything that comes before him.

SO. My choice would be the cynic. As a spiritual guide, I would like someone who teaches me to question what I hear, see, think... not to blindly give or follow because it tugs at my emotional core and makes me cry.

So many religious leaders these days come in under the guise of humanitarianism.... and take your money, feed you a bunch of crap, and then condemn you when you question the validity of their mission.

Christ himself spent time in the temple, questioning the religious leaders... making them very uncomfortable because he pointed out their flawed theology.

And besides - if a cynic can be convinced that it is a worthy cause... he can become an intelligent humanitarian.

I wouldn't want someone that is a cynic. Someone this a cynic questions everything. I don't want that around me. That type of negative thinking isn't healthy to be around. I don't want to become a negative person. A humanitarian is someone to seeks to bring the good out of the whole of humanity. I would rather be around someone like that. However, my true spiritual guide is always Christ.

Why are these are the only two choices? Hmmm, I suppose I'd have to go with the humanitarian, and then season things with my own cynicism.

it would depend what they were cynical about - if it matched the other person's cynicism, then perhaps they would be a very good guide!

A cynic is more apt to tell you the truth, no matter how hard it is for you to take.
