I have been to two Holy Communions in the Catholic church and everyone gets the wafer (bread) and no one drinks from the cup and I just want to know why as the two were supposed to be done together as a commandment at the last supper
Thanks!

Sadly, because men, thinking they're helping God out, have turned the denomination into a set of rituals and add-on man-made rules that aren't required to be a Christian.

Most Catholic parishes celebrate the Eucharist with both the Body and Blood of Christ.

Some parishes have not yet worked out a workable way to distribute the Most Precious Blood. Because we believe that the wine has actually changed into the Blood of Christ, we have to treat it with great respect. Every drop must be consumed.

We cannot just pour it into one or two hundred little plastic cups and then throw the cups away after Mass.

We are working toward a more perfect world in many ways.

With love in Christ.

At the Novus Ordo Mass, which is the most widely celebrated Mass in the United States, the people are offered both the body and the blood. However, we believe that Jesus is fully present - body, blood, soul and divinity -- under both the appearances of bread and wine. Therefore, you would fully be receiving Him by eating the host or drinking from the cup. It is not necessary to partake of both, as Christ is fully present under both species.

Dagah... If you don't believe what the Church teaches, if you aren't in communion with us, and if you don't believe it is the true body and blood of Christ....then why would you try to take communion anyway? No one should have to forbid you from doing something you don't believe in...think about it.

By receiving the Body of Christ only, we also receive the Blood, and vice versa, because Christ is living. If you separate body from blood, you get death, right? So knowing that Christ is alive, we can fully receive Him in either Species (Body or Blood).

In many Catholic Churches, people receive both Species. In the ones where only one is offered to the people, it's typically the Body (although an ailing person who cannot chew will be given only the Blood). Usually, it is a question of economics -- the cost of the wine that becomes the Blood is a lot higher than the cost of the bread that becomes the Body.

You are most likely attending mass at large parishes; where it is logistically impossible - as well as a health hazard - to offer Eucharistic wine to everyone at Communion.

Smaller parishes typically will offer Communion to the congregation under both species, but seldom to larger parishes do.

It's well to know that receiving just one of the species bestows the same Grace upon the recipient as receiving both species of Communion.

Communion is the communion with the risen Christ in heaven who is there body and and soul, in the most holy sacrament He is present in body, blood, soul and divinity. Under each species you receive the whole Christ.

At my church everyone is offered both. Some folks elect not to take the wine. They ARE done together, at every Mass I have attended.

I'd like to know why everyone is commanded to observe the Lord's supper and the catholic church forbids non-members from participating.
