we all treat speeding as being different from a crime like theft but isn't it amoral and non-christian to speed? The road planners have over a hundred years of experience to call on when setting the maximum speed allowed for a particular stretch of road. Then we come along and exceed the limit by 20 percent, 50 percent, even 100 percent and do not believe that is wrong. If a seven-year-old rides her bicycle off the pavement into our path and we can't stop in time, is that really an "accident?"

When we knowingly endanger ourselves and others, it is not in keeping with God's will, and may cause undue suffering or death to someone. The Bible says we're to give God what His and to Ceasar what is his due. That means we keep both God's law and man's law. So speeding is not only a crime, it is a sin.

It really depends on the situation.

In neighborhoods, the speed limit is 25 for a reason. Kids, pets, etc. can run out in front of a car. Speeding there is basically willfully disreagarding their safety.

I don't see it as such in other situations though. Highways are built for a much higher speed. Especially if traffic is going fast, then going fast myself isn't sinful, as long as it's safe.

Bottom line: speeding only becomes a sin when it becomes reckless, and the safety of yourself and others is willfully disregarded.

Last time I looked, speeding wasn't listed as one of the seven deadly sins, nor is it covered in the Ten Commandments. You can drive however you like.

Driving fast is not a sin unless you believe it is. Then it's only a sin for you.

Not an accident since it could have been avoided. The child should have looked.
