There are a number of historical instances where religion has attempted to quell the reality resulting in rational, critical thought. It's funny how the truth always seems to prevail.

Hmmm, I can't think of any issues society faces today where that has any relevance. Especially not public education or women's rights.

Galilo was brought up on charges of heresy and I believe killed for it. And hey we found out its TRUE! Or are we still denying it in parts of the world.
Won't it be funny if evolution turns out the same way?
