I purchased a new cell phone Saturday, and that night started receiving calls and messages from someone, I on Monday told the person calling they had the wrong number, they called again, I called back tues, and spoke to them, they called an hour later,
This morning called again, I returned the call and told them again it was a cell phone to stop calling me, he said it was a home phone and would take the number off the list, they just called again, I looked them up and they are a preditatory loan company and call people up to 20 times a day. I am bothered by these calls at work, and just bothered by them, Is there a action I can take? I live in Ohio.

Call you phone provider & ask them how you can report this company. If you tell a company NO don't call they can not harrass you. There are #'s to call to block telemarketing even on a cell phone. Your provider s/be able to help with this.

Those kinds of collections people are relentless and regardless of what they say, they don't believe you that you're not this person they're looking for. They just think you're trying to dodge them.

Call the cell phone company and complain about the harassing calls. They may be able to give you proof that you are who you say you are, and that you just recently got your cell phone and number. You can send this to the collection people so they will leave you alone.

Or, the cell phone people may be able to block the number.

Or, finally, you can ask the cell phone people to give you a different number.

I used to regularly get calls from some Spanish speaking woman who would keep asking for "Mario". She didn't understand any English and I know about 4 Spanish words. I kept telling her "no Mario" and stuff, but she would call again later or the next day asking for him. Finally, she called one night and my Spanish-speaking girlfriend was over, so I had her explain to this woman that she was calling the wrong number. She said okay. Then 2 months later, she starts calling me again, wasting my minutes. ARGH!

Contact the cell phone company and see if there's a way to block the number. Or if that isn't possible, ask for a new phone number.

Collectors tend not to believe that you just got the number or the person doesn't live there. Folks who don't pay their bills tend to lie.

Go to donotcall.gov You can get on a do not call list and learn the how to get them to stop calling you. I was getting the same phone calls and I told the people I looked up donotcall.gov, and that what they were doing was illegal. I have not received one call from them since.
