I am 30 years old and constantly producing tonsil stones, which are disgusting and a real inconvenience, since I'm always trying to scrape them out and make my throat bleed. Now, they don't hurt, but I am really tired of the situation. I went to an ENT who said the only solution was having the tonsils removed, but also told me it would be the absolute worst pain imaginable. I don't have much tolerance for pain and am really scared to do this. I'd appreciate any advice/thoughts. The doctor said I'd be out of work for 2 weeks, and that it's much worse than having wisdom teeth removed. Thanks.

Well, my seven year old had it done. It's much more painful for adults. She was in alot of pain after wards. She had a hard time eating the limited foods she could have... Look at it like this, be in pain forever, or be in pain for a couple of weeks. Really you would be in pain for just a week, the other week is for recouping. I say do it! You will feel much better, and you won't have to deal with it any more. You can get pain meds! You'll be fine! Did you go through childbirth??? Is so, you did that, you can do this!! Good luck!

I mentioned child birth before I looked to see if you were male or female...

I am 31, have the same problem and was told the same thing by an ENT. I opted out of the surgery. I find my my stones get a lot better if I gargle mouthwash on a daily basis. I understand your frustration. It feels like you're choking!

Also, try using a powerful water pic to get those bad boys out. I usually have to use tweezers, but the pic is more gentle.
