Perhaps it would, if a sufficient number of bodies from economically better off areas were in Iraq in the first place... which I somehow doubt will ever be the case.

The interesting thing about Vietnam which encouraged the ubiquitous (by early 1970's) anti-war 'vibe' in America was the institution of the draft. This forced both wealthy and poor Americans into the war in a personal manner. We were all involved and affected together and the youth rose up and protested much more than what we see with Iraq War protests.
Furthermore, the media were seemingly more 'honest' if we can call it that, by reporting raw news from the frontlines, thus the "living room war". We do have courageous reporters today, but the vast majority of the media influence the public to focus on entertainment news such as Paris Hilton's day-to-day life (because that's where the money is today, and we are a society and government that is all about money).

If the draft were to be reinstated, I believe we would all see a LOT more protesting and a LOT more action taken by wealthy families, congresspersons, senators, etc.

As the months and years continue to pass, however, it is likely that protesting and anti-war sentiment will become increasingly prevalent throughout America just as it did with the Vietnam War in the early 1970's.

***I hope people who read this understand that to be against a war is NOT always to be unpatriotic or against the troops. I am a proud member of the USN and I love my country. I will support my country and president and put its will before my own, but that doesn't mean I have to lie to myself about the realities of this war and believe that we are 'fighting for freedom' over there.
What is going on in Iraq is not American army vs. Iraqi Army combat. It is American army patrolling for civillian sects acting as terrorists to try to get the Americans out of the country. We are there because we need to be; we deposed the head of the country and now must work to stabilize the fragile and broken state.
Thousands of innocent Iraqi civilians and young American soldiers are dying for stupid reasons and mistakes we make which we consider negligible and 'casualties of war'.

I have no tolerance for those who compare the Iraq War to WWII. WWII was fought against a powerful tyrant and army, an existential threat. It WAS INDEED A war fought for freedom and democracy. But Iraq is very different and very complicated. Don't seek to simplify it and divide Americans by calling them "unpatriotic". It isn't fair, it isn't helping and it isn't American itself.

We have an all volunteer military. Whether they are wealthy or poor, they joined because they believe in what they are doing. While every American soldier's death hurts, it is unavoidable that some will die when a war is being fought. The numbers of dead and wounded in this war are far fewer than in any other war of comparable length. But people like you are exactly why Osama bin Laden didn't fear attacking America. He knew that as soon as a few soldiers died you would start crying for a retreat. This happened in Somalia. We need to use the war in Iraq to show the world differently. We need to stand and fight no matter the cost. It sounds harsh, but it is the only way for our military to be feared so we can avoid fighting in the future. A military that is not feared will constantly have to fight to prove itself.

Illegal occupation?

ROFLMAO

And just what makes it illegal? The people love us being there and the new government loves us being there. There have been about 16 insurgents killed for every American killed and in my book that's a great odds for any bet.

Typical far left liberal BS you have there.

No it won't, due to our dependency on energy sources like oil and belief that we can police the global economy to server our capitalistic interests.

Don't you worry, capitalism isn't personal.
