Couldn't he just snap his fingers, or something, and take away everyone's life except Noah and his family?

He could have but there is a lot more to it than that. There are a lot of lessons in that story. The biggest lesson in there for me right now is to continue on with the Lord even when the world is calling me an idiot. I shall continue to build my 'arc' no matter what the world says or does. You can try to tear me down but I will just work harder with the strength of the Lord.

Maybe it is a metaphor.
The whole cleaning idea.
Supposedly He flooded the Earth to cleanse the sin/sinners out.
Kinda like putting water on your floor to clean it.
